Performance

This bike is built to perform in the MTB park environment giving you the ability to throw tricks and fly over built lines with eas. With slopestyle-specific geometry, this bike will redefine how MTB park riding is meant to be.

Thanks to the success of festivals like Crankworx and Qashqai and the movies that allow us to relive them at home, Slopestyle has solidified its niche within mountain biking. Electrifying aerials, death defying stunts and challenging terrain provide an incredible rush of adrenaline -- whether it's as a spectator or competitor. Now Intense fuels that rush with the introduction of the SS Slopestyle frame, specifically designed to meet the demands of guys like Nigel Page and Darren Pokoj. That said, it's ready to clear, or case, the worst any bike park, the North Shore, or your imagination has to offer. After all, you don't always nail it the first time around, right?

The Intense SS Slopestyle has taken the strengths of four legendary Intense models -- the 6 Point 6, Uzzi VpX, M3 and Socom FRO -- and applied them to a Slopestyle specific format. 6.5 inches of low leverage ratio (2.6 to 1) VPP travel keeps you higher in the travel, and takes more impact to bottom out the rear -- this is especially noticeable when cornering or preloading into the face of a jump.

The geometry is optimized for Slopestyle and it all starts with a slackened head angle previously found only on pure DH bikes which aren't nearly as maneuverable in tight situations -- we found it to be ideal for riding the gnarly steeps. The low 13.5" bottom bracket height is great for carving turns in the most technical areas, and a burly Uzzi-style rear provides an amazing stiffness. All in all, it makes for a bike that's both easy and fun to throw around, and extremely forgiving when you miss.

The SS Slopestyle's onepointfive headtube reinforced with beautifully crafted gusseting is highlighted by a low-slung hydroformed Easton/Intense aluminum top tube, placing the strength where you need it most, while making it as easy as possible to swing your legs over as you hurtle through the air. Intense's reknowned CNC artistry is prevalent once again, from the rear stays to the headtube. Tire clearance is rated for a 2.5" Intense DH tire. The Intense SS Slopestyle is disc-specific and comes equipped with a Fox DHX 5.0 Coil shock. Or for an upcharge of $400 (steel coil) or $600 (titanium coil), you have the option to upgrade to a Cane Creek Double Barrel. Trademark sealed pivot bearings throughout the suspension provide lateral stiffness, traction and monster travel we've all come to know and love from Intense's VPP bikes. The SS Slopestyle is ideally mated with a 160mm travel front fork, though it can accept up to 200mm. While the frame can accept a front derailleur and can be equipped with 135mm or 150mm dropouts to dial in the perfect chainline, this frame comes with 135mm dropouts. If you need 150mm dropouts, please contact your local dealer or Intense. It uses a 73mm bottom bracket shell

VPP Tech Info

VPP Linkage

VPP suspension designs balance different forces to eliminate unwanted compression without limiting bump absorption. The downward force on your pedals pushes most full suspension bikes down, resulting in unwanted suspension compression. VPP bikes use a patented link configuration and axle path to apply some of the pulling force from the chain to counteract that motion caused by pedaling.

Because the forces are balanced, VPP bikes remain able to absorb bumps when pedaling, unlinke other designs that effectively lock out the rear suspension by applying too much chain pulling force. What you end up with is plush travel with no pedal-induced compression or lockout and no need for manual lockouts or other compromises.

VPP Sag and Active Suspension

VPP's balance of counteracting pedaling and bump forces is optimized at the recommended "sag" point. Sag is the amount the suspension compresses when the rider is in a neutral position. For example, when sitting on the bike at rest or riding on smooth terrain. This point is about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way into the suspension travel.

VPP bikes are designed to be ridden with sufficient sag to provide truly active suspension, meaning the suspension compresses (positive travel) with rises and dips in the trail. A VPP owner rides in a suspended "pocket" with ample positive and negative travel available to maintain traction and momentum in all trail condition, even while pedaling.

VPP Shock Rates

Shock rate plays a huge part in any suspension frame design. Shock rate refers to how much the shock compresses for a given amount of rear wheel travel. A "falling rate" design is harder to compress at the beginning of the travel than at the end of the travel. A "rising rate" design is the opposite, easier to compress at teh beginning than at the end. By experimenting with hundreds of different pivot placements and linkage designs, our engineers tune the shock rates on VPP bikes to both rise and fall at different points throughout the suspension travel, tailoring the attitude of the bike for the different conditions and uses and maximizing the benefits of the VPP linkage and axle path. It takes a long time but it shows in the performance of each bike.

Frame Construction

A great suspension design by itself is not enough to make a great bike. To realize the potential of VPP technology, every frame is carefrully engineered without compromise in materials or construction methods. We start with custom tubesets made from the strongest and lightest aluminum alloys available Prototypes undergo rigorous laboratory and real-world testing. Each frame is analyzed for high-stress areas when pushed to the limit. Geometry is tested, tweaked, and tested again. Every part of every frame receives an obsessive amount of attention to minimize weight, maximize strength, durabilty and serviceabiltiy.
