2012 banshee rampant.

Nice looking bike but no way it qualifies as a DH bike...

what's your definition of downhill bike then mate?

i wasn't aware my bike had to "qualify" before i could ride it down a mountain...

Well for me at least as a DH bike i'd give it a 5, but as a 4X bike i'd give it like an 8! Just because of how technical the dh trails are here its pretty hard to even make it without at least 180mm of travel. Sick bike though, would definitely be a fun one.

yeah whatever. i rode it back to back with a 2012 demo 8 last weekend, and to be honest, i actually preferred this. the bigger bike was only a bit more forgiving, a bit more stable, and that was it. while the banshee probably doesn't look like a DH rig, it's f*cking capable when you ride it aggressively, almost as much as a bike, with twice as much travel. that's enough to make it a dh bike in my opinion...

Yeah, either someones Demo 8 was set up like shit or your trails are tame as hell

Yeah and I could ride my hardtail downhill if i wanted it would be rough but its possible.

But this is rate my ride DH

as in downhill specific.Bikes have intended uses a.k.a. enginerred for specific use. angles geo strength of tubing etc. Bikes built for downhill racing. dual crown forks.
Im glad youre proud your bike can go downhill but you're not going to win in here.

if you were in a f1 chat you wouldnt post your nascar just because it could do the same course.

on a side note it is a nice bike, use it for downhilling all you want. but its not a downhill bike plain and simple. Its not built to withstand the punishment, but i would love to ride that bike on some trails or urban

I would suggest reading this article on your bike before you do too much Downhilling on it http://www.nsmb.com/4744-banshee-rampant-review/http://www.nsmb.com/4744-banshee-rampant-review/

I took out the main points, he wasnt bashing on the bike he loves it but noted it cant take the abuse.

All bikes have negative traits, but they are hard to spot right away with the Rampant. Being a short travel bike, large drops or jumps to flat cause your body to absorb some of the hit -- but it does do a better job at softening the blow than other small travel frames I’ve ridden. So what’s the downside? The main flaw in this super fun machine is the lightweight bushings used at the pivot points. They require constant maintenance by injecting grease into a small grease port on the axle; the process requires a special adapter which is not included with the frame. The bushings wear into the axles and require replacement far more often than bearings. The bushings cost $50 a set and one axle costs $100 or more. I required four sets of bushings and two axles in one year of riding.

I had so much play in the linkage from worn pivot axles that I sent it to Trident (Banshee’s Distributor) to see if there was something wrong with the frame. Within two days I received a call from them stating that my frame had a small crack in both the headtube weld and bottom bracket weld, and that they would replace my frame under warranty.

VP Frees were cool bikes. Shame to see Santa Cruz no longer makes anything in between a Nomad and a V10. The VP free, Bullet, and Driver 8 were all killed off.

I know what you mean. But i've owned many different big brands believe it or not. I just like my lbs shop. And they carry mostly Specialized. IDK I guess I prefer Specialized to some of the different brands. Not saying it's better. And I wasn't in any way saying the Demo was better than his bike, it's just more well suited for the task in Utah. I dunno if you've been to Virgin/Old Rampage but there is no way in hell i'd take anything less than a 6 inch bike there (Why I rated it low for the type of DH I do). I wasn't being ignorant just because I own a Spesh doesn't make me ignorant, i've owned Trek, Giant, and Transition Bikes. I don't like Specialized any more or less than the other brands, except for customer service which I have been much more pleased by. I think any bike can feel good if it's dialed in. But in your ignorance you are saying go anywhere BUT Specialized.

yeah, i don't understand the spesh hate. they make dialled as shit bikes (i actually liked the one i rode quite a bit), seems like people hate them because they're popular these days. which is really no reason at all...
