the latest incarnation of Sven the Hardrock, 1x9 with narrow wide chain ring for simplicity and weight. Was out last night non clutch Deore XT mech and didnt skip a beat or drop a chain, only lost the chain after a OTB moment which I dont count.
its undergone some changes through the years. here is the mod list -hays comp hydro disc brakes, 7" front 6" rear -rockshox 30 gold 100mm fork -sram x5 crankset and bottom bracket -shimano deore deraileurs and shifters -9 speed cassette -raceface 740mm wide handlebars with locking grips -specialized 2.35 tires, ground control front and butcher rear
ok build all done to my satisfaction. Put Big Apple commute tyres on it for 2 weeks but I just felt dirty riding it...like cheating on a girlfriend or something. Few mph gain, and catches a few stares but totally uncontrollable on sand/loose gravel and wet mud. Knobblies went back on it and it looks A LOT better for it.
My nephew was up from Florida and we built this up from scraps, bits and pieces laying around in the basement. its a 2002 HardRock Pro that got an aerosol overhaul first then a Marz Drop-off Tripple, WTB wheels, raceface cranks and chainring, I only had an 8 speed shifter, deraileur, and cassette laying around so that is what it got. He had fun on the Mountain though so that is what counts. I have taken to riding it around town now but the Drop off has got to go. Paint didn't come out very well though so I might repaint it.
Time to bring this thread back to life! 2011 Hardrock Sport disk 29er. Got it for $180 off craigslist - Replaced ford with Rockshox Reba 10mm - Did a ghetto tubeless setup with gorilla tape and some wtb valve stems - Trail king 29x2.2 tires I think thats it for now. Want to make it 1x10 so im looking for some gentle used parts for that.
2006 Hardrock pro completely custom with a SRAM NX groupset, Mavic crossride wheelset, avid juicy 7 brake set, and the only original part is the frame.
