Hmm, did Ironhorse sell that second one with mechanical brakes? I guess that was what the warrior full suspension? Guess it is an Ironhorse design ... why not bring back the Sunday or the 7 point ... meh such is life
why not let an outdated brand die and buy something current?
Why not buy a new Prius instead of a 69 Chevelle? Maybe I don't want to spend or don't have thousands of dollars to buy the newest and latest technology and I want tried and true technology that works for cheap. You're talking to a guy who still hucks around a Cannondale Gemini

he's willing to spend $2k, he dosent need outdated stuff that was shitty when it was new.
He want's a bike he can do DH on. The one you suggested has mechanical brakes.
My advice: once you get to where your moving to, point your Pinkbike BuySell in that direction and see what you come up with. Pretty much anywhere in BC you will be able to find awesome used bikes in the $2000 range. I'm sure you could find a used SX trail for under $2000 and it will do everything you want to do.
Thanks for the heads up, by the way does anybody here know any references about the Trek Fuel EX 5 i have been looking for it and it is pretty good, tell me what you guys know!
First off the ONLY good Airborne is the TAKA and thats only because it is an Ironhorse design. All the others are Junk ... yes i know a lot of you think the Taka is too but whatever.
I own the Trek Fuel EX 8 from 2008, so the technology is very similar, and the ride quality is too. Only diff is my suspension, and brakes are better. The new EX 5 has a 3x10 from Sram X5 so I'd say drivetrain is pretty decent, I still like my XT 3x9 over it but thats besides the point.
Its 120mm travel front and rear for the Ex5, it will handle light all mtn like a dream. A little heavy for pure XC but XC capable. When it comes to DH I LOVE the full floater, it feels bottomless. Its not meant for DH so if you huck it off drops and treat it like a DH bike dont expect it to last, but it will take a beating.
Wow man! Thanks for the advice, now im pretty stoked for a new bike haha this bike looks pretty complete and for a good price, i think im gonna settle for this one, gotta start to save money! Thanks man!

The Sunday was shitty? Still won a world cup. The marauder is low quality in specs, I'm not arguing that ... the Taka is pretty dang good for the price. Show me another NEW bike that sells with comparable specs and handles just as well. He wanted new, I gave some new options. Don't like my suggestions, suggest something better.
I haven't seen any helpful suggestions from you actually. There are no bridges here, keep your trolling to yourself if you have nothing good to say about the question asked.
In any case the Fuel EX 5 should suit you well ... if you can I'd strongly suggest trying for the EX6 or even EX7 if you can argue down the price. You DO NOT have to settle for full MSRP. The 7 you get way better susp setup and brakes, even the 6 you get way better brakes. I hate Hayes in comparison to Avids, especially the lower Hayes models, mainly for upkeep reasons. Bleeding and maint issues. The 6 has Avid elixers. good luck
I've been on PB for a while, just not on the forum. Seems like a nice place.
On to the question, im looking for a AM bike, ive been XC for over 4 years now, but im getting tired of it. I was looking at the Nomad (is it really worth the 5k?), but the Covert 1 and the Mega AM bikes also seem to be pretty nice. Any personal experiences with these bikes? It seems people here (my local trails) seem to be biased towards the VPP saying theres nothing like it. Im in the $4000-$5000 range, but hoping to stay the closest to 4k!
One more question, is the Angleset compatible with all bikes no matter the brande or model, is it to much of a hassel to install and set it up? anyone used it?
thanks for your help!!
Man you got a lot of options for that price, I have ridden bikes with VPP tech, and I've riden Santa Cruz bikes, but not the Nomad. Not any exp with the others either. If you're in the 4K range might I throw some suggestions though? I'm personally more of a fan of Trek's full floater and ABP design and their Slash 7 and 8 is in your range. might be worth checking out. You mentioned the Angleset and trek has a mino link that can change geometry. Might be worth a look. The Trek Remedy is in your range too, very similar a little less travel but speced great.
The Angleset has different models for each headset type, you will need to find out which kind you need for your specific bike. They do fit all headset types so should work with most brands and models if not all. On some bikes you can get up to a 2.5 degree change, some only 1 degree. BTW crane creek is not the only maker of a headset meant to change the angle, you can get cheaper. VP design and FSA are making one now as well.
Thanks for the response.
I've seen the Treks you mentioned and coming from 2 treks (6700, 8000), I want to try a different brand. Maybe its my faulty perception, but I feel smaller companies such as SC, nukeproof, banshee, Yeti, etc seem to be less "commercial" brands and are more passionate about what they do. I've got nothing against Trek, they make very good bikes and had no problems with them. But what do I know.
I guess i'll have to give it a thought.
Thanks man!
I've ridden Yeti, SC Nomad, Trek Remedy and Slash, Specialized Enduro and Stumpjumper FSR, and Giant Reign and Trance. Like mentioned, it's a personal preference, each offers its unique advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I found the Yeti SB66 and 575 to be my favorite, with the Remedy a close second. Specialized has started transitioning to mass market, with the new Fox Evo forks it seems like more of a rip, but like said, ride each and make your decision.
I'm thinking of leaving the DJ scene and getting my butt back into XC, but I haven't done it for a while so I forget what bikes are good and what aren't.
My last bike was a Cannondale Trail SL3. Said to be a beginner bike but it sure as hell helped me progress my abilities and I loved the thing. I've had three bikes since it and I've always wanted that Cannondale back.
Say I had a budget of... $1,400, give or take, (try not to go over that please) and I wanted a new, not used, XC hard tail. What would you suggest?

Specialized Rockhoppers run about that...decent value for the price. If you can stand used, I've seen 2009 carbon Stumpjumper HTs go for as low as 1200

Looking to get back into biking after 15years away. I'm a bit on the larger side (6'0" 250lbs) so I'm looking for something heavy duty that can take a bit of punishment on rough trails. My (rough) criteria is: New complete bike Budget ~$2300 Full suspension (to save my knees :-) Not really bothered about weight.
Have a rough short list of: 2012 Giant Trance X3 2012 Giant Reign 2 2012 Cannondale RZ One Twenty 2/3
Can you recommend any of the above or something else?

sounds like you want an all mountain or enduro. Do you want to hit jumps or drops?

Maybe little ones (eg 1 foot drops). Would the Giant Reign 2 be a good bike or would you suggest something different?
One of the main reasons I shortlisted the above bikes is that they are all thru-axle which (from what I have read) makes for a much stronger front-end.
