I'm riding 762mm wide (30") 3" rise at the moment, and I would consider that width to be the 'beginning of wideness'

What width are you looking for?

rudolph, stop confusing people by telling them to use steel bars for all mountain.

What bars do you suggest? I don't really like carbon. And what do you think about the rp23?

the RP23 would be okay on most stuff, but it might get hot on the longer descents. (most air shocks will though)

as for bars, get whatever you fancy. personally I really like the bend on most truvativs and answers. Answer's AM bars are pretty reasonably priced too.

A lot of people like sunline bars too, so you might want to consider them. although personally I dont really like their bend.

I second the suggestion of Answer. I like their bars too

I'll third Answer and second Truvativ. Relatively light and strong. If you are going to get either ... shop online at pricepoint.com and jenson.com and bluesky cycling. You will get it cheaper ... HOWEVER ... it is tax free weekend this weekend too. support your local shops and enjoy tax free!

Agree on the air shocks heating up, I notice mine get a bit hot on long descents, not horribly though, its great on AM, just obviously not dh specific.

I doubt the carbon bars will break, however 'IF" they do and you stab yourself on the fibers that would cause some worry. Carbon fiber and the human body don't mix ... breath it in or get in lodged inside and your body will react to it by building up a fibrous mass around it. Just a little info on that you won't hear a lot.

Oh yes, and Rox is a troll.

Derrrrrp. That's partly how I got my hubs so cheap.

I notice my air shock stiffening up
Especially on long steep descents and long stairsets

i don't know much about shocks but i hear about air shocks "fading" after long descents. not sure how to help it, personally.

It's from the heat that they build up. I think.

the friction from the seals and the heat generated by compressing the gas cause the shock to heat up which heats the air inside and raises the pressure inside the shock just the same as hooking up a shock pump and adding air. this happens less with shocks that use a larger volume of air.
