I haven't had any problems, you just have to install it properly and grease the shit out of it.

2 different shops weren't able to fix it, and giant apparently also had issues with it, otherwise people wouldn't have these problems ...on pinkbike and mtb-news (a german website) i wrote with people which had problems with their fsa angle set. neither they could fix it themselves nor their lbs could. just read the comments.... http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-FSA-Orbit-Option-Install-2012.html

If random people are having problems with them then It doesn't mean much to me but if techs were having problems then that's another story. I'm a mechanic so I can relate to those shops but I haven't had any issues.

Is it common for the cups to come loose?

I was racing along side a giant team and the had people from fisher building the bikes a couple of weeks before out in spain and they said there were issues. It top cap does not compress the bearings as it does not sit flus with the top bearing. Look for yourself, I also found that alot of grease damped the noise but this did not solve the problem. If you speak to giant they will send you a standard headset out.

i wonder what the guys at Whistler Mountain Bike Park will do since they have teamed up with Giant. going to be a bad advertisement for giant if the bikes have these problems too, and I asume some of them will ...

Cirest, got the email of the guy you bought the carbon rock guard off, he doesn't have any listed on ebay.

email from FSA
Hi Ken,

Our factory’s QC team has been visiting Giant’s assembly plant in Taiwan to help them get the installation of the Option headset in proper alignment so this problem will be solved in future builds. If your cups have been put in crooked unfortunately they’ll need to be removed and reinstalled. That being said, I have found that removing the cups using a traditional headset cup remover and hammer can damage the cups so that the bearing doesn’t sit well which will also cause creaking. So at the moment we’ve been helping people out with new cups and bearings.

I also have some tips to help install the cups so they press in alignment. What’s your address? I can help you out with the parts. Are you going to be installing the headset yourself and if so, do you have a headset press (like the Park Tool) and a long straight edge ruler or yard stick? (The yard stick helps with making sure the cup is centered in the headtube- I’ll write up something to show you how).

Cheers,

hm...that’s cool!

But I’ve also already written with giant as well as with FSA, both recommended me to install it properly (lol how funny^^) that's all they said! Neither I got further info, nor did I get new cups or bearings.

The frame is certainly good but for this price I was expecting a ready to race bike - proven and reliable! I don’t have the time and nerves to bumble about... maybe they should spend more effort in arranging these things than in Danny harts marketing (just kidding). I mean the first time this problem came up was in November 2011 ^^

it's the headset that's the issue, not the frame. the bike is race ready aside from the headset.

wouldn't describe a 65.5 degree headangle being raceready? Smile
