Anyone have any experience with a Fox 36 Float 180 or similar model on the operator? Looks to lighten it up a good bunch and I'm thinking about making the purchase...found a great deal on a new 2012

If I was going to build an Operator FR or Entourage w/ a single crown fork I would go with a RockShox Lyrik.

I've run them on several bikes and they outperform anything from Fox. They're also amazingly easy to service compared to the Fox FIT cartridge.

Aren't those a little undersized for the operator frame? They have a little less travel (170mm) I think matched to a 200mm rear and thinner looking stanchions - you wouldn't sooner put a Totem on yours? I've only heard wonderful things about the Fox 180mm forks.

Now on the other hand I could totally envision putting a Fox 36 180mm on an entourage Razz

I believe the Entourage Deluxe comes spec'd with a Lyrik on it. It's an awesome fork.

I actually have one for sale if you're interested...Big Grin

That it does =) I'm thinking if I do go the entourage route, I'd get the regular version b/c I love that black frame! May just keep the operator and have it's little brother join the garage... I could customize the hell out of it saving some bucks from the deluxe...

If I could swing it...I would definitley have an Entorage in addition to my Operator. I got to spend some bike park time on one and it's a SCHAWEEEET bike.

If you're interested, let me know. I'll give you a good deal on the fork.

I appreciate it my friend. I am probably going to be sticking with the Fox 180! I've got a good deal hooked up with it at the moment.

Here's an odd but somehow related question - I'm wondering is the linkage swingarm (white on the 2011 models) the exact same dimensions and fit as the swingarm on the 2012 models (black this year)? I know the chainstays shortened by 12mm but it looks to me like not much else changed. It's not really a necessary replacement, but I am trying to contact Kona to see if I can order the new piece in black because it matches my build's color scheme...like perfectly. The white is the one thing on the frame I would change.

Probably a better idea, seeing as I discovered they're not interchangeable haha.

What do operators ride like compared to ironhorse Sunday's frame wise? Does anyone know?

Forewarning, I'm not a good enough rider to decipher the idiosyncrasies between bikes unless things are drastic and obvious.

I went from a basic single pivot freeride bike (ASX) to the Sunday when I found myself spending more time in Whistler then freeriding and was thrilled with the Sunday's ability to pedal thru the nastiest stuff and rail berms.

Since I've been thru a glory and now ride an Operator. The Operator is a single pivot, however much improved over the ASX. I don't have enough time on it yet (first Whistler trip is this weekend) to tell you anything other than I really enjoy it so far. It seems as confident if not more thru berms, feels absolutely plush thru nasty stuff and doesn't have any odd braking characteristics that I can feel. It also seems more willing to jump than the Sunday. And the rear end feels stiff.

I'm getting old and bought into the marketing that this is a bike to last and that I can ride day in and day out without a lot of maintenance due to the simple suspension and overbuilt bearings...the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.

Not much to add after the weekend in Whistler other then it tracks when pedaling better than expected (very well) and that the chain stay protector is too short and I've already made it thru the paint in a few areas. Great bike.

I am a fan of using road bar tape to wrap the chainstay.

Operator lovers...

Wanted to spread some of the love as I just upgraded the fork on my Operator FR. If you're looking for the new 2013 Fox 180 series forks, I found a place that has em 20% off MSRP (i.e. I paid 876 shipped, no sales tax, for a 2013 Talas 180mm Kashima FIT RC2). If you wanna know the shop just pm me. Just figured I'd share. And no, I have no association with the bike shop lol.
