Also, I see you use a Garmin, I'll be using an iPhone so I doubt I'll get the level of accuracy and amount of data.

Wow your roads look so flat and straight :o

http://www.cycle-route.com/Cycle-Route-Planner-Pending/astjohnbond%40gmail.com/22235/ This is my usual route, it's not on Google maps yet as I haven't ridden it with Strava but you get the idea. Much windier and hillier.
Yeah, stuff around here is really planned out so the only roads that are curvy are out towards the wineries and such where they made it kind of intentionally country that way. The Strava app is really accurate for everything but elevation... you'll get bonus height on your climbs compared to someone riding beside you with a Garmin. It's close enough though for sure. When you get signed up on Strava hit me up, I'd love to check out some of your rides out there.

I'll be going for a ride now, but need to make it relatively short as it gets dark in less than four hours, was going to leave earlier but I was waiting for a delivery ahhh

First ride with the Strava app. Had to stop and slow down loads as I went back through town and had to go slowly through traffic, and I had a phone call half way round Razz

It's cool how it recognises segments of the ride that are well known for being steep and challenging, I got 8/17 on this one hill that I didn't even realise was a big one. Next time I ride up it I shall be right at the top of that leaderboard Razz The guy at the top got that speed due to an error apparently.

tup Nice! Looks like you got to roll through some killer countryside from the map images. The segments are killer... so motivating to get out and hammer when you know you're almost at the top!

Haha yeah, well it's pretty green and countryside near here. Most of my rides are down tight and fast country lanes which is fun. And yeah, I'm gonna try and remember where the segments are and try to get to the top of the board for them. I'm a bit of a climbing specialist so shouldn't be too hard.

Great ride on Christmas... about 70 degrees outside and clear blue skies, couldn't stay inside today.

Sweet, from the pics it looks very nice there, roads are so smooth :O what you hit 40mph on?

Posted: Dec 25, 2011 at 17:34 Quote
Yeah, most of the area where I live is only maybe 10-20 years old so a lot of our roads are practically new when you add that we don't get snow damage and such to them. There's some dirt roads over by the wineries too that make for a killer switch up, pulling off a perfectly paved stretch onto a dirt road at 25mph is awesome!

The 41.5mph came on that same hill I hit 37.2mph on last time... it's on the way home and this time I just had a little more in the tank to drill it. Whats great is the speed limit there is 40mph so I was technically speeding! We like to drill it on the flats and downhills, I just suck at climbing! I think my personal max speed is 64mph... its 105kph so whatever that translates to. My buddy says it doesn't count because I was drafting a Honda Civic... but I say it does cause I was riding my brakes just to not rear end that piece of shit because he wouldn't give me enough room to pass. That's the downside about hitting speeds like that, you've got to be willing to take the lane and do battle with dumbass drivers.

I don't own a smart phone unfortunately so I have to time everything on my dumbphone.

Done a ride recently?

You don't need an app to tell you average speed etc. I used to use bikeroutetoaster for distance/elevation and cycle computer for distance/avg/time
