Yo guys I'm looking for a good platform shoe to get. I've gotten more into dh and freeride and don't want clipless shoes so I was wondering what you guys had in mind. Those 661 and 5 ten shoes are a bit too mtn bike-specific for me and cost a good bit as well. I was thinking more along the lines of some DC shoes. I'm really digging these but do you think they've got enough ankle support? I'm open to other shoes also. http://store.dcshoes.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3988098&cp=3448746.3436135#ReviewHeader
I do realise that it's not what you wanna hear, and no I'm not sponsored by 5.10, but no shoes get even close really. I tried all that nike 6.0,some DC, Fallen, Etnies or Adio shoes, but compared to 5.10 they just slip all the time, and I just kept losing my pedals on roots or rockgardens with them. If I were you, I'd reconsider that option.
i have changed 3 pairs of skate shoes, because they teared. i am going to buy 5.10 this month. 5.10 is the best shoes for DH\FR. it is not just opinion, my friends who own 5.10 think in this way too. five ten such as Impact High have a special outsole made frome rubber which absorbs more shock than traditional outsoles, so you leg stay in the right place.
thanks for the helps guys. ha yup, not really what I wanted to hear at all. Guess I can't go cheap like I was expecting to. I'll definitely reconsider now I just wanted something I could also use for longboarding, bmx, and semi casual wear. If I used 5.10s for longboarding and bmx would that just completely tear the soles apart you think? I'm looking at the 5.10 spitfires
It will work out cheaper long run to buy the 5-10s in my experince , most skate shoes last maybe 3 months before they are bald for me. I put off buying them for ages cos I though they were over priced , now they are one of my fav bike related items of all time , skate shoes feels so gripless and flimsy/non-supportive now.
True story. Anyway, about 5.10's durability while not riding, I think they should be ok. I have my Karvers for about a year, but I usually spend all day im them, either walking up the trail when there's no lift nor shuttle, or just hanging around during the race weekend, and they're still as good as new.
Well, you convinced me. 5 Ten must be paying you guys good money because I had no intention of spending over $55 and now it looks like I'll be somewhere in the forecast of over double that. Which ones would you guys recommend? I'm looking at the freerider scribble model since they seem to be the cheapest.

I prefer the hi-top ones , they have stiffer soles so you don't get that horrible foot bending over pedal feeling when you land hard and better ankle support. You won't be dissapointed in them
