already so early in the season (and my first so yea im a noobie) i went and twisted up my ankle barely halfway into my first run of the day. Gotta admit it was kinda dumb. It wass raining and getting muddy, and i was getting anxious cus i had to wait half an hour at the top of the trail for my friends. Then i tried to keep up when theyre too experienced for me...ended up crashing into the banked side/wall going down the trail and landed ankle twisted under my bike. Facepalm
Sooo, RICE for now, and dont think im gonna be going to work tomorrow Confused Day two and the swelling is going up a lil more and the bruising is coming through. Is more walking on it gonna slow down the healing? i have my bro's crutches i can use, but they bruised the crap out of my upper body and palms, darn things. Otherwise, i can barely walk...nice and slow and i can get somewhere Cry
tips for faster healing? got plans for hiking later on mid June!

Limpy, hope you are feeling better. I broke my lower fibula the first day of daylight savings time. Similar to you, first run, came into a berm too early, put my foot down to stabalize and put it too close to the bike and the peddal came up and wacked me in the back of my leg. My foot spun around and SnaP! Surgery for plate and screws. Yes crutches suck, I hear ya. I'm back on the bike and running now. Hope this one is behind you... Ride on.

doing pretty good lately! feels like its been a month but surprisingly its only been what...three weeks? lol. Did a fundraising ride with roadies on Sat which was my first time getting back on my bike since my accident.

So far its feeling great except i still dont have full movement, i can't flex my knee past my toes and trails are still a no go. Hoping to get back into riding in a few weeks though. Or atleast manage a hike that my friends are planning for sometime this month.

Hope ur leg is doing great now and ur out riding and stuff!

If you've still not got full movement go look for physio stretchs on the web somewhere, I broke my foot in 4 places and the simple excercises a couple times a day does wonders to speed up the recovery!

My leg is pretty much 90% good. I have been running and have done several xc rides. This weekend I'm going to Highlands with a buddy and feel as thought I am ready for it. Can't wait. I'm an OT so I have a good handle on what I needed to do for therapy. The thing that is important is to use it a lot. If it swells, which mine is still doing, you can wrap it with an ace lightly. Keep at it and you will do fine.

kinda was evaluating my ankle today..its been a month now. still looks noticebly swollen (puffier all around the ankle 'ball' than my other ankle) and it still hurts if i try to flex it very far (pain and still can barely flex my knee to my toes)

again i know i should be doing exercises to strengthen, but that aside, wat about the pain and swelling? still normal expectations for a sprain if it was really bad. i never got it checked by a doc, and im considering going, but if u think i should give it more time then i dont see harm
in doing that...

Swelling can be expected for some time with injuries to the extremities, rest and elevation is the best thing for it. have you considered using an ankle brace for walking/riding? I can feel your pain, just over a year ago i got hit by an SUV and my ankle/foot got trapped under the wheel, crushed it up nicely. It's still pretty badly swollen, unfortunately foot and ankle injuries seem to take a while to heal if not rested properly to begin with. I feel that i definitely messed up the healing process by trying to push too much too soon. Ibuprofen (not sure if that's the counter name in canada/us) seems to help for a while but i found that after a while it stopped working at the same dosage, the direct application creams seem to do a lot more for localised swelling, might be worth a try in your case. another product i'd suggest, and again i'm not sure if it has the same name across the pond, is arnica cream. works wonders on bruising and i find that it helps free my joints up a bit if i've injured them. it's also worth buying a theraband or similar physiotherapy type resistive band to use for low resistance movement exercises to re strengthen the muscle.

if it's causing you enough pain that you cannot stand on it then get it xrayed and ultrasound scanned, there may be a small fracture or muscle damage that needs treating with an appropriate course of physio/immobilisation/surgery.

got xrayed last week and nothing is broken. dr didnt seem too concerned and was on the sensus that cus its an ankle injury its gonna take a long time. got the Tensor sport deluxe brace and working on stretching my ankle more. Guess ill go for a ride on the trails when it finally gets sunny and dry enough and ill see how it is...
