Nice setup. How's the X-fusion? And is that a straitline stem?

Stem is a spank spike "race" stem in blue and 35mm. I haven't gotten to ride the xfusion on the trail yet. Messed up my back doing yard work and its hard enough to walk let alone ride. Hopefully in the next week or 2 I can get out on it. So far though, its nice. I have had their coil shocks on 2 other konas and they were awesome. I even sold off a custom tuned elka for the xfusion and seriously the xfusion just edged out the elka in performance. Really stoked on their shocks and their Customer service is way good. Really like dealing with them.

Just ordered mine:

2012 Kona Entourage (wanted deluxe but sold out in NZ),
2012 Marzocchi 55 RC3 EVO Ti 170mm,
Gravity 777 bars with ODI Troy Lee Grips,
Easton Havoc Stem,
MRP Mini-G SL chainguide with E13 G-ring 34t,
SRAM X-9 Shifter,

Currently choosing pedals!

Can't wait to build and thrash!

Can I ask how tall you guys are and what size you got?

Same exact deal. Wanted the deluxe frame but I actually think I'm going to be happier with the black! So many color options and I haven't seen as many out there yet. Nice build spec.

The totem at 180 feels way to slack for a lot of the jumping I do. This bike was designed around a 170mm fork and I think that is where it would be best left. I am probably going to machine up a spacer to drop the travel to 170mm. It just feels too slack. Even though the totem is only 10mm taller in axle to crown it just feels slow and what not.

I wasn't sure how it would affect the handling or the head angle. A lot of people have put fox 36 180mm upgrades but haven't heard any responses to how it changes the bike. Even the kona riders have kept the 170mm lyrik front end.

Hmm...hopefully the Talas will either feel comfortable at the 140mm setting or the 180mm...but I'll fill you guys in on if Fox is any different.

What's crazy is I've seen someone on a forum elsewhere post their Entourage that had a set of Boxxer's on it...Can't imagine what 200mm of travel would do to change the ride...

It would probably DH awesome, frankly. The totem is the same axle to crown as the boxxer and the solo air boxxer is the same weight as the SA totem. Running a local DH track with my entourage really made me miss having a boxxer up front. The Totem is good at a lot of stuff but the Boxxers wins in the DH realm. I just wasn't as comfortable as I was on my old Operator with a boxxer. There is just a little less stiffness and that 20mm of travel makes a big difference. But you can't Xup a boxxer. Wink . That said, I still 100% feel that this bike was meant for a lyrik or a fork with that same axle to crown and weight. The extra pork of the totem mixed with the extra travel/slacker head tube angle make the bike ride not as good as it could. It doesn't want to jump as good and it totally feels front end heavy and not well balanced. I need to save my pennies to get a lyrik asap.

Oh, and never ever take apart that talas cartridge. I made the mistake of doing that for a guy at the shop. Took me a long time to get it to work right again. What a nightmare. like 300 little orings and parts and crap.

As i said even the Kona riders are keeping a 170mm fork so must be enough travel and make the bike ride as it should. With a longer fork the slack 65 degree head angle becomes even slacker (64ish which is race DH bike geometry). Also the BB is already very low and doesn't need to go lower or you won't be able to pedal without smashing them on the floor.

What crank length comes with the bike?

The marzocchi 55 evo rc3 Ti has the same fork length as the lyric and I just prefer marzocchi aswell.

I think the stock bikes come with 170mm, but I am tempted to go 165mm just because I am clipping a lot. Even with the nicer, thin kona pedals. But this bike was meant to be hucked, not trashed in rock gardens all the time.

Yeah, I totally hear you. Plus the totem is like 2700g versus the Lyric at around 2100g? That's almost 1 and a half pounds worth of difference up front, so I could totally see how it'd make it front heavy and less responsive. At around 2400g I'm wondering how the Talas is going to affect the weight distribution and I'm hoping it should be a little bit closer to the Lyric's feel (which, by the way, I've heard is an amazing shock - since you're looking for a lyric check out the 2012 Kona Operator forum, someone tried to sell me their brand new one a couple pages back at a great price)

Yeah, I think it might be 170mm also - well if the 165 won't help you in rock gardens that you avoid anyway, it may still keep you from catching on berm transitions and small bumps! Going to be trying out a pair at 165 as well
