take a measuring tape then measure from the middle of the bottom bolt to the top bolt of your shock..essentially a dhx 5 WILL fit on you bike, you just need to buy one that is the same legnth as your vanilla

hey i have one more question the dhx 5.0 was sold before i bought it but there is a marzocchi roco for sale and its an 8" eye to eye will it sill fit my back, and does that mean it has less travel?
k, stick with the 8.75 eye to eye. even the smallest difference in eye to eye like for ex the 8 in one you are talking about could make for a horrible ride. to tell you the truth i dont think its worth it for you to make the upgrade from the vanilla to the dhx. it will not make your ride plusher at all. shure the dhx is a tad stronguer and has a few adjustments but for your bike its not completly worth it..first of all dhx 5s cost alot..and it would be much more worth it for you to just upgrade your frame and get one that comes with a dhx. the reason i say this is i went through the same experience as you when i started dhing.i had a big hit then i got a dhx 5..and i was only to discover that l8er on i wanted to make the upgrade to a 9 rear travel more dhrace orientated bike. you see the big hit has 6-7 in of travel and if your want a 'plusher' ride then the only way to get one would be to change yuor frame..changing your rear shock wont do much. BUT if you are going to get a dhx annyway GET the 8.75 eye to eye. Dont get me rong, the bighit is a great freeride bike, but as you get better a dhing you might want something with more rear wheel travel because that will make you faster at riding trails. if the world of freeriding interests you stick with the big hit because it will do better at the jumps..but i you decide to start racing, you will eventually have to upgrade. Hope that helpedBig Grin if you have anny questions email me at eric_loran@hotmail.com or just send me a message via pinkbike.

Also why do you want a DHX 5.0? the Van R shock is a fantastic shock, my friend has the same frame as you with the van and it feels far nicer than my DHX 3.0, which is a 5.0 without the bottom out and propedal adjustments which you will probably not make use of.

what are you talking about?
the bottom out and propedal are what make a DHX 5 and they make a HUGE difference when they are adjusted.
but dude for a beginner its not worth it!!chances are that he wont even be able to adjust the dhx properly. van r is sufficent for him at this point

Pay Attention....Don't solve your bottoming out problem by throwing down money for a new shock. You should probably consider getting a stiffer spring first. A much cheaper solution to sloppy shock blues. Your bike's suspension is not magic. It will compress to the extent of it's travel if you are dropping big flats or to transition ramps with an insufficient gradient.
SPRING first. one suitable for your weight and bike usage.

You're a 95 lb. 12 year old. You don't need an 888 yet. trust me.

yeah, i have been tryin to figure out if i can put a 2.75 on mine, i cant see why not. iam pretty sure that all the big hits are the same, mabey the big hit 3 has a shorter linkage? i dont know.... iam lost on this..........

i really dont want to wreck my geo, love the way the bike rides!

i wish i could get a hold of some one from speciazed to get the facts! and end this *she said he said bull ^&^% *

Thanks Trevor

ok i have the info! from 2006+ on big hits 1/2/3 you can run a 8.75x2.75!

Posted: Mar 31, 2008 at 18:03 Quote
Big Hit 1/2
Shock 8.75x2.5, travel 7.5"
Big Hit 3
Shock 8.75x2.75, travel 8.25"

specs from spez website, only difference between the frames. i've heard you can also run an 8.5"x2.5 or 2.75 eye to eye and it will lower the BB height and rake the head tube a little more (ie make it more downhiller).

Remember the Big Hit Frames have two mount's on the link plate that attaches to the bushings and shock. The highter one is for a free-ride geo, and the lower one drops the bottom bracket height and slackens off the bike making it more stable at high speeds. If you want 7" of travel go for the 2.5" stroke shock, if you want 8" of travel (better on the big hit for DH) go for the 2.75" stroke. The dhx is good but remember specialized get DHX-3's and 4's and tune them for their frames so fitting a DHX-5 (which is the only one you can buy) will require alot of patience to get it set up. If you see a DHX-3 or 4 for sale stay away cause they have come off a frame and will have been internally tuned for what ever it came from and no use to you. And If I were you I would concider waiting and saving for a Rocks Shox Vivid because of the seperate rebound features thats whats really important.

heres a pic of a bighit with a dhx 5.0

but thats an 06 bighit 3 mine is a 06 bighit 2 which is 1 step lower, will it still fit

and will the shock make my bike bigger?, since i upgraded from a vanilla to dhx 5.0

it should still fit because i belive that the big hit 3,2,1 have the same eye to eye length 8.75'' from eye to eye

Posted: Nov 15, 2008 at 13:52 Quote
is it allright if you have the same eye to eye length but different strokes... like i want to buy a 4.0 for mine ... the eye to eye is 8.75 but the stroke is 2.5... if you go on the spechalized website it says that the current shock has 8.75 eye to eye length and comes in a 2.75 stroke. will this create any problems??
