You need the 3 way pivot arm really, so anything that includes that. If you want to use it on your helmet you should get the Helmet Hero pack. I think the Motorsports edition also has everything you need to mount to a helmet, and the suction cup for attaching to a vehicle.

do you know if it would be safe to use the Curved Surface Adhesive Mounts on an helmet?

Yep, that's how I attached mine, you have to take the time to position it so the curve of the mount matches the curve of the helmet. The glue is probably stronger than the helmet, once it's stuck on it isn't coming off so you have to be careful where you stick it.
Stickys are fine for bike helmets but do not put them on mx or motor bike helmets, you might aswell not wear one then as it completely reduces the structural integrity! Anyway helemt hero has more then enough for mountain biking. Get the ride hero if your looking for some more adventurous angles...

I don't quite follow your statement. A helmet is a helmet, designed to protect the head under various impacts depending on the sport. So how would the integrity be affected on an mx helmet and not a bike helmet? I have to disagree with your statement though and say it will not affect the helmet at all. Now if you have the camera on and crash on it then yes it may hurt you more because of leverage if it doesn't break away.

A helmet it a helmet yes, but a helmet is designed to spread the force and energy of an impact across the entire shell, if you were to hit a pointy rock or a curb at a certain point on your Helmet you would feel the force all over it. A smaller force all over is safer than a large point in a small place. If you however put a go pro mount or a sticker on a helmet this would affect how the helmet works, in turn the energy would be focused on that point or distributed un evenly across the helmet. bad for a mx bike helmet, catastrophic for a motorbike Helmet.
The Difference between a mx helmet and a DH helmet and why the go pros on a DH helmet don't really matter is because a DH helmet is much lighter and much more flexible, nevermind less padding etc. Pinkbike did an article on this a while back. The flex is why you see DH riders come away from a big crash with cuts on Their head, if it flexes the force isn't being spread.
Helmet manufactures spend thousands of hours designing and testing helmets to ensure that they will do their job. They incorporate visors, air vents and skirtings into the design to ensure that they do not affect the performance of a helmet.
If I was using a go pro for mx and motorbiking, use the chest mount. It gives a much better view and feel for the track your on, headcams most of the time make them look flat and like there's no features on them. Plus for all you video speeder uppers out there, the closer the camera is to the ground the faster you look like your going.
Bottom line, why chance your life on some footage when you could easily do the same on a body mount. Plus if you have just spend €200-€300 on a decent helmet, why not just buy a crappy tescos one? It won't work any worse with a mount on!
Gopro suggests waiting atleast 24hrs for the adhesive to set up completely before use. It seems excessive, I see 1 or 2 hours being plenty but it comes down to the user. Headed to Snowshoe mountain, WV this weekend so there will be videos when I get back!
