i am trying to find a replacement free hub as the cassette began making a cracking noise and on removal of the free hub i found a lot of little indents where the cassette had be striking the aluminium of the free hub. this made removal of the cassette a little harder than usual as i had to tap it off with the hammer. i think it has happened due to the bike shop not tightening it up correctly?
I have a expert 29r and I just found this problem today. I talked to my former LBS repair guy who had the same problem on his expert 29r.He feels the problem is with the fit cheap cassette that specialized put on these bikes. He changed to a 10 spd setup. He is now having trouble with his alloy spoke nipples on this bike as well. Back to the cassette. As my hub has not worn as much as yours I am going to try to change cassettes to a better quality unit. Quite frankly I have never used anything but shimano so this type of issue is new. I would throw the hub in the garbage(I may be doing that also) and buy a new hub with a matching cassette at least at the xt level. DT SWiss make great spokes but I would never buy their wheel again. Let me know what your results are. millcreekflyer
Since I posted the last note I found this item on MTBR!! http://forums.mtbr.com/specialized/anyone-else-have-problems-w-specialized-dt-swiss-330sl-hub-shimano-hg61-cassette-677906.html
Hope it helps.. I am going to order a steel freehub if I can. millcreekflyer
