Hi guys new on here looking for some advice..used to ride dirt jump when i was younger and the occasional downhill...im now 23 and want to regain a hobby of downhill biking ive been saying it for too long now problem im worried about is im 6ft 3 and 18 stone (bodybuilding) ive been searching alot recently about what bike might suit me and in my research ive seen of alot of bikers saying that being tall and heavy this isnt a sport for me or many people of my weight and height..obviously this is most likely bollox however i can understand that i wont be able to use the bike with as much agility as some smaller riders...
i havent got access to test any bikes without travelling a distance to test one i might like but it could be a long way to travel to not want it.. so im hoping for some good recommendations as to what would suit..i have a budget of 700 pound at the moment thats at a push im looking at something good used to get me started ...bikes that have caught my eye so far is a specialized big hit and orange patriots i plan on cutting a couple of stone anyway plus i fear a bike might take some abuse with my weight if im dropping off some heights etc:S all advice is welcome
I have a few buddies about your size who ride Giant Glory, Specialized Demo and Specialized Big Hit. They all seem to be holding up fine. I'm nowhere near your weight, but I ride a Banshee Scythe. Zero issues after 4 years of agressive riding in rugged terrain. I also had a Banshee Scream which is known for being a really tough bike. You should be able to pick one of those up pretty cheap these days. The biggest problem with buying a used bike is you never know what abuse the bike has already seen and it may be prone to beaking under your weight. Whatever bike you get, I'd make sure it's got a good wheelset. Double crown fork would be good too.
thanks for the reply just on ebay like and it seems its hard to come by a large framed bike for a good price that i can afford..im watching one big hit at the moment its been refurbished according to the seller and frame is in good condition ill keep watching it and might make a bid towards the end if nothing else comes up
No problem. It will definatly be a challenge if you're on a budget, good luck
Go for a bighit the older one with the 24 rear wheel bang on for your needs and a size M should be ok for you aswell. Ive seen full bighit bikes on here for 700
