Hi all,

I've recently ruined the Fox RP23 rear shock on my 2012 Specialized Enduro and need a new one but im having the following problems:

1. Have no idea of the size, I measured my shock and it appears to be 220mm eye to eye but the largest Fox seem to make is 216mm, is 216mm the right length?

2. I have no idea of the stroke for my existing shock and Fox make the 216mm in various strokes like 56mm and 65mm (or something similar but everything's in inches on their website and mm on stockists sites. Obviously i can do the conversions but the don't seem to match up exactly!)

3. I've looked in the archive on the Specialized website and it says that the shock is a custom enduro length. What does this mean lol ?

4. Finally, it seems my broken shock may have a different eye size/style to all the after market Fox shocks I seem to find online. Do I need to buy any extra parts/get the new shock converted to fit?

Can anyone advise me about any of this? My current shock is not repairable and I need a replacement asap. I just don't want to spend £250+ (or £350+ for Kashima) on a new shock that doesn't fit!!!!

Many thanks.

I do not own one, but from what I understand, Spesh uses a propriatary shock mount which means you cannot mount a normal aftermarket shock, it will not fit. I believe you need to order one directly from Spesh. I would contact their customer service first to determine what options there are. Hope that helps.

What happened to it that it can't even be fixed? A full rebuild would take care of anything inside the shock that isn't working right. I would contact specialized and try to get one through warranty, as a rear shock is rarely broken beyond repair if that actually is the case.

Cheers guys.

Yeah I'll contact them and see if I can get a mount that will support an after market shock.

After further inspection I think it may still be covered by warranty so I'll start there and see if they can send out a replacement.

I'm not entirely sure what happened but a I think the nitrogen somehow got into the normal air chamber and then it simply broke the regular seals which as you say; easy fix! However, it happen just before a 6ft drop which wasn't too smooth Wink probably because the seals were f*****d and there was no pressure. But, the shock (after landing) has somehow managed to literally fold in half right where the stanchion goes into the air chamber. Weirdly the frame is completely fine, just a slightly bent shock mounting bold and a couple of heavy scratches.

I've used pretty much every type of rear shock even the old-school gas shocks from like 1997 and I've never seen anything like it. I know the RP23 isn't supposed to be used for heavy downhill or freeride but broken seals is about as much damage as you can do, usually!!!!!

I'll post some pics if I get chance!!!

Anyway thanks again guys!

The size is 8.5x2.125, which is an odd size. Have you tried ebay?

specialized and their current love of using propriety parts put me off buying a stumpy evo .
