Hi all... I found this forum trying to search out an answer to this question. I bought a Rockhopper at a yard sale this AM and am trying to figure out the year. Everything I read says look at the shimano cranks but this bike has Siguno on it so I assume they've been replaced...
Serial # on the bike is GY130968. ('96 August?)
I'm not an experienced bike person and intended to use this as a beach bike. So far I haven't been able to inflate the tires because it's got different valves so I haven't even tested it out yet. My brother has a hard rock and tells me this is a decent bike but may be hard to find parts for. My date question is more out of curiosity... I'm not sure it needs any parts yet.
I think it's probably around 1998-2000 because the earliest Rockhopper listed in the archive on Specialize's website is a dual-suspension. When they were first being produced they were hardtails then Specialized switched them over to dualies, then in 2004 they finally decided to stick with having them as hardtails. I saw a picture of a guy's Hardrock from the 90's and it looked pretty similar to yours, hope this helps.

I've realized that the serial # won't necessarily date the bike so I took some pics to see if it might help.
