It should not be a problem. Your bone isn't sharp so it won't pierce your skin. Plus, the other piece of your bone that is fused under this one will prevent it to pierce the skin.

I think everyone's got a point.. like you COULD ride earlier but it's always best to take it safe and wait longer than you think you need to Razz Nothing's worse than waiting all that time just to hurt yourself again.

I went to the fracture specialist today.
Had another x-ray. I am having a CT scan on Monday and a plate put in on Wednesday.

Booooo. Not happy.

Sorry to hear that you have to have surgery but from what everyone else has said seems like it might be better. Mine is healing with some overlap but when I talked to the doctor about strength he said it is equal either way. Hope your operation goes well and you can get back on the bike fast.

Had the operation. Hurts like mad. 9 screws and wire around the bone. Going back on Friday to see the fracture specialist hopefully get a pic of the X-ray and post that too.

I might go for a walk to the crash site later. Not been there since just to have a look. Its less than a mile from my house.

I'm not happy at all.
What a stupid, stupid idiot I am.

Not happy

Just saw my x-ray this morning after the operation last Friday.

Bikes are rubbish anyway. Walking is much better.

X-ray before and after

Ouch

That sounds about right. I had my operation on 21 June so that's nearly 4 weeks ago and My shoulder feels ok ish but still strange. I think the first time out on a bike will be riding down to the park prob mid August.

Just out of interest which side?

You guys should be fine at 8 weeks but a little later without physical therapy just don't want to over stress the muscles early. This week makes 8 for me and I got back on the bike for road rides. Go back slow I won't be riding any trails for another month or longer. I would recommend going to physical therapy to help get you moving again. Going to see the doctor in 4 days hopefully I am done with everything by then and no crashes happen. Good luck to you guys healing and don't push yourself it is worth the wait to be safe.

I just broke mine three weeks ago. I broke my left clavicle in 2008 but it was in November so it was a season ender for me. Had surgery and got a titanium plate and 6 screw's. Then I recently broke my right clavicle into four pieces and broke my scapula in half. I got another plate and 7 screws on my clavicle. Doctor says 4 more weeks (7 weeks total) until it's all healed up.
But the big thing here is to BE PATIENT!!! Don't go riding until you know for sure you are ready. is better to take an extra 2 or 3 to heal than to re-break your bones and be out another 6-8 weeks. Just let PB become your best friend in the meantime.
