to MRinthemix :
- what do you usually ride more XC or DH?
- do you often take your bike to the shuttle or lift? or long riding to the top?
you'll find the bike you need if you answer those 2 question. Smile
i seems like you can fit in both sizes.
M (more XC-ish) L(more aggresive)

- 70% XC/Trail/pedal up as long as it takes, bomb down
- 30% shuttle/lift

... also, I guess everyone becomes a more aggressive rider with time/skill and I don't want to sell the bike soon again ... Smile

Hi, so, I'm totally confused regarding Strive Race sizing and the more I read, the worse it gets. Please help! Very confused

My measures:

Height: 179 cm
Inseam: 82.5 cm
Torso: 62 cm
Shoulders: 50 cm
Hands: 60 cm

I currently have a Canyon Spectral in size M and feel a bit cramped on it ... also, my lower back hurts when pedaling seated on steep uphills and I've tried every setting imaginable (seat height, lowering the front of the seat, different seat etc.) and it doesn't help.

I've now decided that I'll change it for a (2016) Strive and thought that it'll be easy, because M Race is supposedly a bit longer, but:

My Spectral M has:

Top Tube: 596 (656 with added stem length)
Reach: 430 (490 with stem)
Stack: 598
Stem: 60
Wheelbase: 1153

Spectral L has:

Top Tube: 627 (687 with added stem length)
Reach: 455 (515 with stem)
Stack: 621
Stem: 60
Wheelbase: 1188

Strive Race M 2016:

Top Tube: 629 (669 with added stem length)
Reach: 448 (488 with stem)
Stack: 615
Stem: 40
Wheelbase: 1188
+ minimal difference in seat tube angle compared to Spectral

Strive Race L 2016:

Top Tube: 648 (688 with added stem length)
Reach: 468 (508 with stem)
Stack: 627
Stem: 50
Wheelbase: 1207
+ minimal difference in seat tube angle compared to Spectral

Also Strive Race M 2017 has a 50 mm stem, while 2016 came with a 40mm, so it's a bit longer than 2016. And when riding downhill and standing, my M Spectral feels fine, so reach is not the problem (and Strive Race M is actually 2mm shorter when stem length is taken into account), but I guess I should be looking at the ETT+Stem for seated position.

When comparing ETT+Stem between Spectral M and 2016 Strive Race M and L the differences are:

Spectral M vs Strive M Race - 13 mm longer on Strive (40mm stem)
Spectral M vs Strive L Race - 32 mm longer on Strive (50mm stem)

I guess L would be a little too much, but M a little too little of a difference, so I would probably have to play with the stem length a bit ... and now for the question Big Grin

What do you guys think is better?

a.) Get the Strive M Race and fit it with a 50 mm stem if it'll be too short (like the 2017 model has).
b.) Get the Strive L Race and fit it with a 40 or 35 mm stem if it'll be too long.

I'm leaning towards the L size, especially when considering the "forward geometry" thingy. It's not really logical to take the M Race which is basically an L (2016 Strive regular wheelbase, reach ...) with M seat tube length and not that "forward" when you're in-between sizes or L size for other bikes (with the oh so boring and old "normal" geometry Rolleyes ).

Thanks!

Im only a touch taller at 181, Id definately recomend the large race. My strive L race has a 35mm spank stem, I could never go back to a shorter bike.

Has anyone with an L-sized Spectral tried out how much seat post exactly can it accommodate? Can it go past the upper pivot?

I'm trying to figure out whether with my lanky legs I could fit a 200 mm drop 9point8 fall line in there. I think I would need about 27 cm of insertion to make that work.

How easy was that my friend? Did you have to move the internal tube?

Was easy!!!

Took a chance and just took the reverb out all together. See if I can re install after its back from warranty.

Could you elaborate the procedure to switch the reverb cable exiting from left to right? Thanks.

Hi Phil.
Remove forks. Remove the plastic cap where the reverb hose comes out. There will be a small threaded "neck" coming out the headstock, where inside the frame it is screwed into a ribbed plastic tube. This tube carries the hose through the frame. Loosen your seatpost collar and pull the post out so that you can pull SOME of the hose through the frame. Just enough so you can pull the threaded neck out of its seat and inside the headstock of the frame. You should then be able to push the neck into the side of the headstock that you choose.

If you need pics let me know. I think there have been some earlier posts with some pics also that may guide you better than me lol.[/Quote]

Thanks, mate!! Will reroute one of these days.

Hi guys, here some pictures (sorry bad quality) of my spectral with new wheels and my freshly received fast suspension modified pike

The bike is in light\trail configuration because I'm planning a long ride this week end, and I'll post some other pictures in the heavy duty/enduro configuration with the cane creek coil, offset bushing, chain guide, sram code instead of guide and mallet dh pedals soon...

Quick question before I go replacing the totally unsuitable for a UK winter Minion SS tyre -
Do the wheels on a Strive CF9.0 come set up tubeless or with tubes installed?
