Christopher Hitchens vs Tony Blaire on religion

I remember getting this debate some time ago. It demonstrated what a masterful debater Hitchens was and once again showed how logic and reason can completely destroy any feeble argument proponents put forward in support of religion.

Hitchens had a very sharp wit and took no prisoners when it came to speaking out against cruelty and willful ignorance. He will be very much missed.

Harry potter dosent exist but we know about him.

It's called fiction... Blank Stare

although JK Rowling would admit that Harry potter isnt real, but any author of any chapter of the bible 100% believed that Jesus and God are real.

Jesus was real.

God isn't much of a stretch to believe in when your entire society believes in some kind of deity and you don't have wikipedia at your fingertips.

Religion? Wow - doesn't make one bit of sense in my world. I am so glad my parents decided to force-feed my brain with knowledge, trivia, facts, wonder, kindness, love, rational reactions to situations, the importance of questioning whatever I feel like questioning because nothing is off-limits or rehearsed. And I understand some people feel they need to have a 'higher power'. Be open-minded and understand that it wasn't your fault if you were brought to church by family and had the stories drilled into your head. Tiger Woods would have been an awesome preacher if his dad had put a bible in his hands at age 2 instead of a golf club (ok, he's on a slump, but you get the analogy).

You are either a very successful troll...
Or one of the stupidest people on Pinkbike.
I genuinely have no idea as to which you actually are though.

Matthew 7:13-14:
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate,
and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and
many there be which go in: Because strait is the
gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life,
and few there be that find it.

Your so confused!!!! You dont believe in Jesus, yet it is widely accepted that Jesus did exist. (Whether he was the Son of God, born of the virgin birth, performed miracles ect.. is another [unlikely] story!). There is absolutely no evidence supporting the existance of a devine creator, yet you believe in a creator. Why?

For exactly that reason, there is nothing to say anything about before that time.. Religion is really just putting an answer to what we dont know yet, those that choose to ignore the facts are to me ignorant of the truth, but no one knows what started the ball rolling, and it is something we will probably never know, i mean no matter how far you go back something started it all... What? Something higher? thats my answer to it.

Honestly if there was some bloke called jesus that did some magic tricks fair play, and i wouldn't argue that, i meant i dont believe that gods son, who is also god at the same time came down and walked on water and pissed a load of jews off. It goes against physics, so i dont believe it. The way all the evidence and timing of jesus' life just happens to tie in with all these other ancient religions throws me a bit too.

As for believing in life after death, i just think it is a nice thought to be honest and a nice idea to something unanswerable. I accept it has no evidence, but rather than just wondering thats what i like to believe, if someone has proof otherwise i would just drop it and go with what they say, as long as they have reasonable evidence

actually, we have some pretty good ideas how it all started...
