on step 8- you do not need to cut your spring or buy a new one
Sometimes you do because there can be to much preload for the rebound to handle making it like a pogo stick but other times you can get away with it.
if you got 10 or 20mm no you can compress it HOWEVER it puts inordinate stress on the lowers each time you compress causing them to be more likely to snap (I've seen it happen)
Hi, i have some 2006 dj1's which i would like to lower to 80mm. I have taken the 2 top caps of, so i can see down into the fork. Each leg firstly has a black spacer which is 30mm. If i cut the spacer and put 20mm of the spacer at the bottom of the spring and 10mm of the spacer at the top of the spring where it normally goes.
Nope you need to remove the lowers from your stantions and put a spacer under the top out spring. Also the spacer needs to be way narrower than the one your talking about because it slides onto a narrow rod and needs to fit inside the stantion.
oh ryt, thanks for ur help...so if i am going to do it properly how long will it take? Also lowering the fork o 80mm will it damage the fork in any way?
If you do it right it wont damage your fork at all just follow samnation's how to and you will be fine. I lowered my fork in about a hour including making a custom spacer and dialing it in.
