The fact that Pinkbike hasn't posted this story on their main page says a lot about where they stand. f*ck specialized. They deserve to take a hit for this.

I get the whole trademark issue from Specialized's perspective but how they were allowed to have it is beyond me. Major oversight but they did it so what do you do? However that doesn't mean that they get to go around crushing everyone without the community standing up and telling them to go f*ck themselves. Their PR division should get their walking papers, short-sighted and just plain dumb. They could have handled this situation completely differently and it could have been PR gold. Make it right Specialized, you are going to lose a lot of business on this one!

http://www.bikerumor.com/2013/12/12/mike-sinyards-open-letter-to-the-industry/#more-70873

Sinyard did apologize for the mistake but in the same breath attempted to deflect blame on counterfeiters, which makes no sense at all. Counterfeiting and trademarks are two separate issues, especially on the issue involving Cafe Roubaix. He is essentially trying to get an emotional reaction by showing some broken frames that injured people made by counterfeiters, and somehow relate that to the Cafe Roubaix trademark issue. It's not credible at all, it reminds me of something a lying politician would say.

For Mike Sinyard to somehow try to put the blame on and demonize counterfeiters is a bit hypocritical considering he started his career of building mountain bikes by taking
a Gary Fisher frame to Asia and having it copied and mass produced.

But he did apologize and I will give him a little credit for that. I'm betting they will change their ways, but only because they have to now because of all the public pressure.

This whole issue must make racers sponsored by Specialized a little uncomfortable, hard to be proud to represent a brand that is without any doubt at all now the most hated brand in the cycling world.

Anyone see this? Sounds like the Specialized reps are over their heads...
