I'm just getting into mountain biking and I recently picked up a SS hardtail and I'm in the process of building a geared 29er hardtail. I've been on my SS on trails that have a few climbs, but are flat in general. Question is, do many people ride ss to throw in some variety and provide extra conditioning, or is the benefit minimal? I know it'll come down to personal preference, I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks about it.
