I recently purchased a GT full-suspension frame and was wondering about converting it from a 26" to a 27.5" setup. I've seen one such conversion but couldn't find any details on it. Has anyone on here done this? Mind you this is going to be a project and not my main bike, just thought it might be fun to try. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

Biggest issue is going to be clearance for the rear wheel. I've heard many 26in frames that can run 27.5 wheels, but they have to use less knobby tires to get the clearance. And even then it's always still a super tight fit. What frame did you get?

there is a conversion discussion and compatible 26" frame list on the 650b/27.5 forum on mtbr.com

Foobajoob, it's a GT i-drive. Brian, thanks, I'll have to check that out.

A 26" to 650c conversion would be easier IMO.

I don't mean to sound so confused illbread but what's the difference? I thought 650 and 27.5 were essentially the same?

27.5" is the same as 650b, as far as MTB wheel sizes go. If you really mean 650c, it's not a MTB wheel size.
