I'm looking at upgrading my rear shock (Fox Float) to a better DHX and found one. the overall length is the same but the stroke length is .25" longer, will this affect my ride much?

If the i2i is the same, but with longer stroke than the stock shock, its compressed length is shorter, which means your suspension may bind/contact at full compression (maybe not but maybe).

just unmount your current shock and compress your frame .25" past the total travel of the current shock to see if there is any binding. It shouldn't effect ride much, you will just get more travel and could possibly make larger hits.
