Im eventually going to upgrade the rear shock on the 2015 Enduro comp 650b from a standard fox ctd to a new Canecreek db inline or monarch plus. (I prefer the monarch more). I don;t really know shock stuff really well and need help.
HERE ARE THE SHOCKS FOR BOTH THE ELITE 650B and the COMP 650b
*216x64mm that converts to about 8.5 x 2.5 (650b Comp with Fox CTD) -
* 8.5"x 2.25 (650b Elite with Cane creek Inline)
QUESTIONS: 1) Does the higher end Elite really have a different size shock than the Comp? 2) I have know idea what size shock to put on? 3) Give me some basic knowledge on shock please?
It looks like somebody at Specialized copied and pasted incorrectly on the shock specs. The 29" Enduros all use a 57 mm. stroke (~2.25") shock. The 26" and 650b Enduros all use the 63 mm. stroke (~2.5") shock. The eye to eye is always 216 mm. or 8.5".
This being said, Specialized use a specific clevis attachment point on the stanchion end of the shock so it's not possible to order the wrong size shock for your bike so long as you order the one that is correct for your wheel size version.
The Monarch Plus RC3 is available in both DebonAir and AutoSag versions for the Enduro. The part number for the DebonAir version is 00.4118.071.007 with an MSRP of $536 and the AutoSag version 00.4118.038.005 with an MSRP of $499.
The Cane Creek Double Barrel CS (part number BAD0611, MSRP $695) and DB Inline (part number BAD0933, MSRP $550) are both available to fit the 650b Enduro as well.
I personally do prefer the Monarch Plus because the Cane Creek products need to be sent to an authorized service center for routine service whereas a skilled mechanic can fully field service a Monarch series shock in under one hour with all service parts readily available through SRAM. The small bump performance is also better on the Monarch Plus although the Cane Creek shocks have a more adjustable damper setup.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards -David
I ran into the same confusion, but I'm pretty sure I have it all figured out here. As you can imagine, Cane Creek has correct info as to specialized-specific shock specs, and I've gathered these numbers from various posts by thier tech guy in the lounge.
2013 Enduro 26" 216x64mm
2014 Enduro 26" (all models; slightly altered linkage design from 2013), all Enduro 29", and all Enduro 650B: 216x57mm
The SRAM part numbers the DavidSA lists above for the monarch plus are 216x64mm and will fit the 2013 Enduro 26". Part numbers for the 216x57mm monarchs are 00.4118.038.006 for the Autosag version and the debonair version escapes me but the size can be easily found online.
I'm trying to figure out if the 650b and 29 take the same shock. I have a 29 and know it takes a 215x57 but the shaft is actually 63mm. There's 6mm of the shaft that isn't part of the travel. I think that is a big part of the confusion over these shocks. Does anyone know if the 650b is the same?

The 26/650b enduro runs with a 63mm stroke and the 29" uses 57mm stroke? As I've ordered a monarch as the presumption of the 650 is actually a 26" front triangle with a different chain/seat stays.
This is doing my head in if I ordered the wrong one! Please help

Quite a few places sell them. Normally they German sites are the cheapest.
cheers mate do you know any names ?
I got mine from r2bike. If you google "Monarch Plus specialized enduro" there should be some good options on the first 10pages. Actionsports, bikediscount, bikecomponents there is quite a few of them.
