Im eventually going to upgrade the rear shock on the 2015 Enduro comp 650b from a standard fox ctd to a new Canecreek db inline or monarch plus. (I prefer the monarch more). I don;t really know shock stuff really well and need help.

HERE ARE THE SHOCKS FOR BOTH THE ELITE 650B and the COMP 650b

*216x64mm that converts to about 8.5 x 2.5 (650b Comp with Fox CTD) -

* 8.5"x 2.25 (650b Elite with Cane creek Inline)

QUESTIONS:
1) Does the higher end Elite really have a different size shock than the Comp?
2) I have know idea what size shock to put on?
3) Give me some basic knowledge on shock please?

Thanks for reading!

1) Geometri is the same as far as I can read - belive they are the same.
2) Specilized specific mount - RS makes a Monarch Plus, dont know if its out for the 650b yet (same size as 29" ?)
3) Google :-D If you have to chose between CC inline and monarch plus I would go for the Monarch plus. I demoed a S-Works Enduro and the CC performs well, but on other bikes where I tried the RS, I found it better. Maybe the CC DBAir CS, that is a very nice shock as well!

I have a suspicion that Specialized had to use up all the 216x64mm shocks they had from the 26" bikes. I let out all the air on my '15 27.5 comp and it doesnt use up all the stroke.

So here's what I know, every one (cane creek, fox, RS . . . ) recommends a 216 x 57 or 8.5 x 2.25 which ever you like. I think spez. Got mesamurement wrong because I too could not make it travel 63 or 64mm. So with that being said the all 650B and 29er Enduro use the same shock, same shock curve etc. . . Fox will make a float x for a price $, Rock shock makes a bebonair pn # 00.4118.038.006 med tune. And Cane Creek makes a DB air CS which my son uses. I have heard to stay away from CC DB inline's. The stock auto sag ctd shock are junk. You can get them modified and revalved, we could talk about the strengths and weakness of each shock but maybe another time. Oh and the DB air CS has been great BUT only been on bike a month. Time will tell.

O+

I have the expert carbon model and it uses an 8.5x2.25 shock same as the 29er. I really like the DB inline cs, and the factory suggested settings were very close to perfect. I also have the Monarch plus that fits and find the medium tune to be a little harsh on slow speed stuff and lacks traction. I have a monarch for the 29er so I don't think the tunes cross well between 29 and 650b. As much as I like the inline I will be changing it out soon due to my shop sponsor getting me on rockshox. If you want a barely used inline hit me up.

i have a cane creek inline that i just took off of my 2015 enduro s works frame bc i upgraded to the db air cs, it is for sale and i know all the demensions are the same, i will post pictures if interested? it was never been used or compressed even once, it was the first thing replaced before the bike was ever built up.

No, it causes contact between the seat tube and the seat stay arch. I tried as that's what i used on my old 26" Enduro.

@viciouscycleworx Cool! What kind of Damper do you have and what rocker and yoke? Is it a 216x64 and a 2013 rocker? I am thinking about upgrading my 650B Enduro and was wondering if it is possible with that changes to lower the leverage ratio and increase the progression?

I am using the factory 2015 650b lower shock mount, and the factory Horst link. People have swapped out the stock Enduro link for the EVO link, but that mod is usually reserved for the use of an Ohlins coil that comes on the Enduro EVO. As far as your damper question, I'm not sure what you're asking, besides the Kashima coated Stanchion and the volume spacers, it's a factory tuned unit.
