Im trying to decide if I should rake are xc freeride flow trails for the cold PA winter or just leave the leaves on? we have a lote of horse riders poaching are trails and they leave a uneven rudded mess in the spring which we have to rake every trail when things start to dry!
so would the leaves help protect the trails or just make a gummy mess?

I usually rake mine on the farm, at least near the jumps, berms, and drops...Makes everything easier to see. Just so long as there aren't sticks to get stuck in the derailleur I wouldn't worry too much! I hate the horse problem you mentioned. Thankfully they don't ride on my farm as much as they used to, I think my bike features got in the way!

one way to curb horst traffic is when a tree falls over the trail just build a ladder bridge over it...did it on one trail and it works...

I did a similar thing and built some drops off of them. A little small though! Better for balance practice on the skinnies!
