Right on. It's interesting how the BMX world has split the usage--V-brakes for racing, U-brakes for street/park/dirt/flatland/trails. Hard to say if there are tech reasons or just history/marketing/business reasons....
There's not enough space on a BMX street frame for V's. You'd catch your feet on them all the time. I did have XTR cantilevers on my Bully Piston Street, and they were amazing.

If you had canti's on a frame, then how could you ever complain about Vees? Vees
Sorry, I should explain better. The Bully Piston Street frame (1992) was actually the same length as a race / trails bike, pretty much the same as an S&M Dirt Bike. As such, with a long rear end, V's or cantis would have been fine. But modern BMX street bikes have crazy short rear ends, and that would be a problem for V's or cantis.
