Hi all,

I bought and fitted new forks. Tube cut, star nut installed with park tools star nut fitter - no problem.

Now I've fitted my headset bolt I keep tightening and tightening trying to get to the recommended 6nm of torque, but it seems as if all I'm doing is winding the star nut up the head bolt - it's not gripping the sides of the steerer tube.

I'm using the star nut provided by the fork manufacturer.

Any tips in getting it to stay put? or is it not worth the bother?

Cheers

Have you put the star nut in the correct way? Did it require lots if force to get it down the steerer?

It did require a fair bit of bashing to get down there, yes. But I think I got it in the right way - the petals of the flower facing up - for want of a better expression.
