I recently got a great deal on a used 2014 demo 8 1 carbon. It has mostly stock components with a few upgrades such as carbon bars. I am going to be racing next year for the first time and I am wondering what makes the most difference to upgrade out of Fork, rear shock, rims and brakes. I have a boxxer rc, cane creek db, and specialized roval dh 26 rims. The brakes are elixer 7 trails.

I'd upgrade the fork
The elixir 7 trails are amazing and haven't broken

What tires you got on there? That would be my first upgrade

Fork. For the rest, upgrade as they break.

If you have the money get new wheels. Nothing better than a nice pair of envies if you've got the cash

Fork- throw an avalanche in that RC and brakes.
I went with saint brakes an avalanche in the RC Then 729s built to hope hubs. In that order.

Stock wheels won't handle a year of racing. The elixir 7s that came on my 2012 demo had to work hard to stop me and faded quickly. And I feel very cautious when I know I can't stop quickly.

The Avalanche took the POS RC and transformed it into something that is simply amazing.
I installed the avalanche and upgraded to a ccdb over the stock fox vanRC shock and by the 3 rides my friends were commenting how much faster I was riding because the susp. Was doing its job.

True words.

Saint.
CRC has it on sale now.

But, if you have more cash, take the Hope Tech 3 V4.

I'd wait on the ohlins damper to come out for your boxxer. I know the 40 one is ridiculously expensive but it's the best. The avy damper is also very good from everything I hear, also half the price and custom tuned to you.

Saint brakes with ice tec rotor's as for there review they said there the most powerful brakes on the market at the mow and if you can trust your brakes you will def ride faster also they also don't suffer from brake fade as for the rest of the bike I would upgrade as and when you can
