I've just bought my first 'proper' modern hardtail (2nd hand Stanton Slackline) and had a question about tyre sizes/tread patterns.
The received wisdom is to have a slightly larger and/or more aggressive front tyre to lessen the likelihood of the front washing out before the rear. My bike has a pretty much box fresh Conti Rubber Queen 2.4 on the front, but the rear looks like it could do with replacing. Thinking of blue and red trails initially, does anyone run the 2.4" tyres front and rear, possibly with a slightly less aggressive tread pattern on the rear, and what are the pros and cons of doing so?
I run the same high roller 2 in 2.4 front and rear. And i am fine. However most xc guys at least use a narrower and/or less aggressive tread in the rear to decrease rolling resistance and increase pedalling efficiency. All depends on you and your riding.
