I have a 2013 carbon stumpjumper 29 and put a 160mm pike on it. Geometry is now the same as an enduro 29 except chainstay, seat angle, and higher bb (which I am ok with). Been on a few rides and it still does great uphill and bombs down.
I don't freeride or drop any more than 2-3 feet and even that is rare, but I like to ride rocky chunky downhill sections that I have to pedal up.
I have read the 10% increase fork rule, but is going from 130mm to 160mm REALLY going to damage my carbon frame? Has anyone actually seen/had this happen, especially with a reputable carbon frame like specialized? Any input is appreciated, thanks!
I replaced the stock140mm air shaft with the 150mm air shaft on my 14 SJ EVO. I believe it's the same frame with the exception of the rear link. 10% of 140mm is 14mm. I do not see how 6mm of additional travel above recommended will cause any issue unless you take it to the park and launch it.
I went with a negative rise stem to help with climbing.
