It would be interesting to see photos of each bike in order of progression, because it might help people come to that same conclusion without going through the whole process.

I think it would be pretty cool to do a thread like that. Kind of a "How I got to this" (meaning) why I like what I like or how we get to our various opinions.

Here's what the bike did look like.

It is very easy to ride at the BMX track.

I've got some hydraulic brakes on the way, too.

Only other thing I would want to do would be wheels, but hard to get a 3/8/10mm f/r hub set.
I might just get new lighter rims and a standard black BMX front hub (non disc).

Itll be interesting to see if you like it

You probably know this already (and they're pricey) but Profile makes MTB hubs. You can get a rear 135mm spaced disc brake Profile hub and a matching Elite non-disc front.

Very minor thing I noticed: So, 3/8" is 9.5mm. Mtb front solid axles are usually 9mm. Mtb rear usually 10mm. But in the Profile front hub options listed in the link above, 10mm is listed as an option for the front. I don't know if that's a mistake. It doesn't seem to matter as fork dropout slots for 9mm do fit a 3/8" axle (I've only tried it once), but I haven't tried to fit a 10mm axle into dropouts intended for 9mm. Most of the time it probably works fine.

Again, it comes down to money; I can't justify the Profile pricetag.

Now you have me wondering about the axle size, though.
Snafu fork is 10mm, so obviously would accommodate 9mm.
The wheels I have came off a stock DK Xenia and I'm not sure what size axle the front hub has.
Regardless, if I got Profile hubs I could get whatever size axle front hub I needed; nice part about their making BMX and mtb products.

I still have my 2006 DK Xenia (also the first 26" I got, after years of bmx). I took an axle nut off a Primo bmx hub and I was able to thread it on easily to the DK hub. However, I know that a 3/8" bmx axle nut will not thread on to the rear DK hub, because it's 10mm.

Funny, the Xenia was my first DJ. I designed a website for a local shop in trade for the bike; then started upgrading.
The Xenia just has a higher stand over that made it a little awkward.

I can almost build the Xenia back up except for wheels.

I bought mine at The Peddler shortly after they opened. My buddy A.J. owns the shop. I agree the original Xenia had a higher standover. But, at the time, and even in retrospect, it made it kind of an all-around singlespeed MTB more than other DJ-specific bikes. For about a year and half, I rode cranked it around xc trails as well as jumped.

I keep seeing guys come on to forums and ask about that exact thing. They want a bike they can ride trail on AND jump. It's going to depend on the person, but I think that older mid-2000's style dirt jumper (like DK, Kona, Rocky Mountain, etc.) does actually work for a lot of riders. : ) I've loaned that DK Xenia out to a lot of friends, and all of them have got something out of it. I think it was a great investment, for what it is. One part singlespeed mtb, one part BMX parts, one part DJ-mtb...... Cool

That's a good idea. I might build the Xenia back up as a do anything bike.
I'll try to lighten it up; put some alu XC cranks on it rather than heavier cromo cranks.
I just need to find some cheap wheels.
