Hi, guys Ive been bmxing for 7 years now just picked up my first hard tail got a good deal on a buy and sell site really been wanting to try a dirtjumping I got the 2012 ns metro 1. Anyways I was just wonderings what you guys thought about the bike. And if its suitable for somone whos going to be doing flairs big jumps flips/spins and park riding I really like riding on it so far. Feels like it wants to fly much farther off jumps then my bmx and is much more stable in the air. But I went to flair it and landed it mind you not perfectly and tacoed my rim broke 4 spokes at the hub. Do I have to land perfect flairs in mtb or is my rim garbage?. Also I wondering how much psi I should put in my suspension and if anybody knows a good website I could get a suspension pump from and other mtb parts somting similar to danscomp possibly for mtbs? sorry for all the questions any help would go a long way to helping another mtb join the scene cheers all thanks for reading

hey man welcome to the scene. ns is a solid brand and it should hold up for what youre trying to do. and yeah you can definitely spin it and flair it but you'll notice it takes a little more effort because of the increased weight and wheelbase, flairing mtbs are definitely harder than BMX but it sounds like your rim didn't help you out haha. if youre coming from BMX id recommend running your sussy on the stiff side but thats something you just need to play around with and figure out what you like. check out chainreactioncycles.com hopefully it helps

you're not the first person to ask this! e.g. http://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/The-Hub,2/Online-Store-For-DJs,3348

there's no web store that I know of that is specific to Dirt Jump / Street / Park mtb's.

several DJ-specific stores have been tried, but have gone under.

But, there are lots that carry all the different types of MTB. you sort of have to know what you're looking for in this scene.

I like to look through www.bti-usa.com. It's a distributor that bike shops order from. You can read in the descriptions when something is intended for Downhill / Freeride / Dirt Jump use. There's also QBP if you can get your hands on the catalog that bike shops use--although they don't put their info out for the public.

You might want to check out a Halo DJD singlespeed rear wheel. Or build up something custom and strong.

I know shops that will not even carry BMX and jumper bikes because they consider them a loss. For one, shops don't make a lot of money selling a complete bike. You bring that bike in for a few free adjustments and they have lost money on it. Add to that liability and they scrap the whole idea. There are tonnes of shops around that carry what you want, just read up and make sure you know what you want before you start throwing money around.

thanks for the help guys looks like I should start doing some research before I start shopping. The links help quite abit though. And yeah I keep hearing spin stuff will be harder but back flips feel so much better then on bmx on it and Ive pretty much done all my jump tricks from bmx on it my first session. Other then tailwhip combos I'm finding tailwhips crazy hard compared to bmx not sure if its because I just don't have brakes on my DJ yet. Also my mtb is quite abit lighter then my bmx. I ride a heavier bmx for sure though pretty much bought all most heavy duty parts for it. And price isn't to much of an issue when looking for a new rim I'd buy a wheel but I like the hubs the bike came with plus I'm pretty decent with lacing bmx wheels so Id imagine Id save abit doing that myself if its not much different then doing a 20" wheel. Can anybody recommend the some good super strong rims for park rats that can take a beating? Weight is not an issue and don't want to pay anymore then 150 if possible. Id go to my local bike shop but its skatepark that's only sells bmx stuf and the other 2 shops in the area Ive had a bad experience with.
