I bought a 7 speed sram cassette that I have not recieved yet, my question is what will fill the gap of the missing gears? Does the hub of cassette extend all the way to free hub?
Thankyou in advance for any advice

Was it a PG730 oldskool 7sp or one of the X01DH cassettes?

You'll definitely need a spacer behind the cassette. Look on eBay for cassette spacers

Yup, a BB spacer or two should suit if you have any laying around too...

Furthermore: you are aware that 7,8,9,10 speed (etc etc...) Have different gaps between gears?
So you're going to run into trouble if you're going to make that work with a 10sp shifter/derailleur...

Yea man thanks for the heads up I'll start looking for spacers.
I should be all set with compatability I got a xo1 7spd shifter and x01 derailleur.
Probably need a 7 spd chain I currently have an 11 speed sram chain?

Not sure about which chain you should use but I think the 11speed one should probably work.ive used a 10speed chain on an 8speed setup and it worked perfectly!

The old 7 speed cassettes (such as the PG730) use a different cog spacing to the new 7sp SRAM DH gear. It's not going to work.

Arrrrrrg!!!
So now I'm gonna have to drop $230 on the sram dh 7spd cassette?
Also it says the sram dh 7 speed cassette is only compatible with xD driver which I dont have..

I think the shimano 11sp cassettes are the same spacing as the sram 11sp (and 7sp). The XTR cassette you can remove the top four cogs because there are two cogs per spider (I think it's 2/2/2/2/1/1/1) but the XT is 3/3/1/1/1/1/1 so you could leave 8 gears on it but you won't be able to use the lowest gear. You'll need spacers to pack them out. Both options are cheaper than the xd driver + sram cassette.

sram made the design opensource for manufacturers to pick up market presence of the design
what are your wheels? i think everyone (except a certain japanese outfit) have picked it up

you should be able to pick one up pretty easy

I already have a sram 11 speed cassette so I could use this with a X01- 7 speed derailleur?

See if someone in your area has one they want to swap for an HG (standard) freehub

Or look into a PG 1130/NX cassette, I believe they're pinned individual sprockets like the PG730/820-30-50 and 950 lines...

We're only just getting it down here so I'm yet to see it with my own eyes though so I can't confirm.
