I been out the bike game for years now but recently got the itch to ride again...

So since I dont have bunch cash to buy a cool bike I figured maybe I can create something neat out of this 100$ commuter bike I picked up off craigslist last year when I had temp susp license.

Its a 2006 Jamis XC 2.0, smallest frame size Im sure. I have had a Kona shred, P2, and other 26" dj bikes in the past so Im leaning towards sumn like that. The frame geometry lookssimular too.

Not sure what you would call this but its going have 1x9 drive train soon with mrp g3 chain guide ; those ate in the mail. I still need to buy hydraulic disc brake setup with wheels n all. Not sure what i should get yet. Maybe shimano xtr. I got HG80 9spd cassette too

Oh ya, switching from that heavy suntour fork to the light aluminum rigid fork makes the ride so much better as you can imagine. It feels like a whole new bike. Nimble like a fox where it was heavy like a pig before. They seem to be exact length of my stock shock forks but not sure about the rake or whatever else but it feels like it corners sharper. Maybe its placebo effect. Regardless Im stoked about that upgrade the most. The bike feels better than my P2 did imo soley cuz the front end is lighter but obviously its not near the bike. Yet.

Pretty sure Im going to do just rear disc brake fr now too, no front brakes. The raceface 36T sprocket and mrp g3 will be here soon... Along with HG80 cassette i expect a renewed drivetrain. I got replacement BB to put in when i do all that also...

So far:
RaceFace respond bars
Origin8 locking grips
husefelt 35* stem
Haro aluminum platform pedals
Charge seat (chromag overture on the way)
Run flat hd tubes
Kenda K-Rad tires 26x2.125 (hookworms inbound)
Exotic Aluminum Rigid forks
1x9 setup , mrp g3 , 36T nw sprocket by race-face
N-Gear Jump Stop 31.8mm
HG80 cassette 9spd

To Do:
Chain Stay
Rear wheel with disc brake hub
203mm Rotor - Rear
Hydraulic Disc Brake & Lever - rear
Shortcage Rear deraileur upgrade and shifter plus cassette for 11spd saint setup
Magnesium platform pedals
Anodized Green bolts/accents where possible
RaceFace light mtb Crank set
Powder Coat/Air Brush custom paintjob

Every now and then i always get the urge to build something similar for commutes (since its inevitable that im gonna hop, drop, and try to boost off every possible curb cut i see). But the i ended up building my street grinder.

Are you sure you want 203mm rotors? Most dirt jumpers use 160mm or even 140mm.
Cheers,
Bobby

Most likely you won't clear the 203 on the back, probably better off with a 180 either way

Raceface 36T sprocket and jump stop ... til my g3 gets here that coild actually work. I hope 203mm fits cuz I want to run it for the look ofcourse. Huge rotor looks sick especially shimano xtr centerlock rotor. Hope it clears cuz im ordering it. If not ill go 180

I never said this was a dj park build... i grew up racing bmx, dirt jump park rat etc but that was long time ago. This bike will be for short bike rides, light fun and for kickn around town on a sunny day. If I wanted to build a real dj bike I certainly wouldnt use this frame as the platform. Or use aluminum forks... or frame. I want this thing to be simple, light as possible for being medium duty.

Removing the front brake and front deraileur cleared up room on the bars making it feel alit like a dj bike tho..

Im tempted to buy some raceface cranks and bb cuz they are so cheap. Not sure what size arms I want to do tho...165 to 175. I need think about it... also wondering if a DH specific crank set would be a bad choice for a bike I may ride ling distances at times n such but Im so out of the loop. The bike parts scene has changed so much since 10-15 yrs ago. I luv cnc aluminum art and there is so much cool stuff being made its very hard not to spend too much $ on it

Spend as little as you can until you are more "up to speed" with parts and usage, as you've said, a lot has changed...

The longer you hold out, the better choices you will make.. as lease to the point you know better what you want..

Indeed... also it is not really a waste of money spending extra money on the better parts since I can always swap them to a better more suitable frame in the future. I have bad habbit of over spending just to oersonalize my things my way

Anywho Im pissed my chromo overtureseat did not arrive today as it was supposed to via tracking info. They just now extended my delivery date out 4 more days. Such bs! Niagra Cycles Amazon seller using cheap crap shipping service is what happend

I was due for a front sprocket... my 3 ring setup was all bent up with bad teeth. When I back peddle the gears would skip.. anyway thats all fixed now and it shifts super smooth now. The tension seems to have gotten worse though which was expected hence the G3 tensioner. I cant wait to install that.

I really want to get an 11speed saint deraileur, cog, shifter setup too. I want a much shorter cage deraileur both for the look and sleekness but obvious badazz shifting usability

You shouldn't need a chain guide since you put on the race face, assuming it is a narrow/wide ring. I changed my old MTB to a 1x9, last year with the race face narrow/wide and I have not dropped the chain once, since.

It depends what you mean by the word NEED cuz it definately is a must for jumping or doing any tyoe of hard riding to prevent the chain from slapping against the frame over and over. There is a reason they make chain tenioners you know. The mini G3 in 34-36 size with iscg05 adapter kit is what im going to be running and I promise it will be a huge upgrade...very much needed in my mind. Although the chain has never fallen off yet but that could also be my chain stop device helping in addition to the narrow wide. The narrow wide technology probably helps keep chain fixed on gear better but I would not call it an alternative to a chain tension device. Dont believe everything u read bro.

I updated pictures in op cuz i got more parts installed including the much needed overture seat.

So next up is having the G3 installed this week when it arrives, along with rear shimano XLS hydraulic brake kit and have my rear disc brake hub laced/swapped into my current back wheel. Then I will put a new cog, deraileur, shifter setup on it with short cage, 11-28 cog and probably get Zee& Saint stuff if i can.

Lastly Im going to do 165mm race face respond cranks to match handlebars and hussefelt 10mm offset seatpost to match my stem. Then im having the frame powdercoated in super chrome with a shocker yellow mid coat and casper clear coat for a matte finish. Then im having front half of bike dipped in hydrodip design with trabsparent backing to let color thru. Then have back half of frame pc'd in ink black with sparkle and blend it over and into the hydro dip design to make it look like a nice long airbrush job or sumn. If not yellow then sub in jamaican teal for mid coat. In the meantime the stickerbomb look is kind of growing on me at times. Other times no lol but ya its definately sumn to look at...catches the eye. Hydrodip is way cool tho
