I'm aware of that. It's just that parts more or less always stay the same price. I wouldn't want to buy a $2,000 car to have to put another $1,000 into it.

Being a VW, parts might be expensive.

Actually can be pretty cheap because there's so many errywhere.

I said "might." Some VAG cars run high retail for parts. Others are cheap.

And yes, Blendo. You are right on that one. It's just being able to lessen what we spend before buying that I like to do.

I'd stay away from it because lemons outrule gold in MKIII's.

My girlfriends parents Passat TDI for example.

I'm pretty sure they could have sold it for scrap when the transmission went, and bought another second hand one and they would have spent less money then getting it fixed.

We got lucky with the Audi A4s we've had.

1988, 1998, and what's now my 2007.

None of them were lemons, and according to the Internet and our neighbors (many of whom have lemon Audis) many were lemons.

i bought my passat for $450. TONNES of cash to be spent here and there.... window regs/ps fluid reservoir/stereo install/tires etc. it all adds up pretty quick! At no point did i expect it to be a minter for that price though!

Grabbed a wire grinder set. Didnt work with the grinder I was using...sooo..I used a 25 grit sanding disc instead.

Ground down some of the frame, looks pretty good.

Most likely going to start to strip it and cut off the bolts and put in galv or stainless bolts and keep truckin with that.

Since your not sandblasting it id take a torch and cut all the cross members and get everything, than just bolt er back together. I started to do mine and but without a sandblaster its kinda disapointing

Yeah, not a chance I would buy an older Passat. Just too many things to go wrong.

Like buying a 'rado. Sick cars, but just so sketchy.

VW are cheap, if you buy right.

I really want to build up a JDM mini truck. If I didn't already have a project, I would snap this up.

*cough* Datsun 520 *cough*

The whole appeal of building a JDM mini truck is they're cheap and easy to find.

I think there is maybe one Datsun 520 for sale in all of Alberta currently.

People are realizing that old RWD Japanese vehicles are desirable. Luckily that doesn't apply to pickups.

Plus, not a lot of people are doing JDM mini trucks right now. I think it could be the next big thing.

Dad told me the other day he had a 510 Frown

I have a thing for Datsun. I don't care what it is or how hard it is to get one, I want one.

So do I. There's a project 510 wagon for sale near Calgary right now. I want to see somebody buy it and do something crazy.

It's seeing things like Datsuns for sale that make me wish I had loads of money, but with my "enjoy life, stay happy, money later" lifestyle it can be hard to get that cash to justifiably spend.
