Congragulations on being mature and giving pinkbike a good name. Looks good, how much of a difference does a 29 make from a 26?

29ers are so stable going downhill, it's amazing. once you point it, it goes there, and fast. the wheels hold their momentum very well and roll over everything, so 29ers are perfect for singlespeed. the larger tires hold a corner much better than a 26er at high speeds.

they are harder to get up to speed. they are harder to control at slow speeds, and harder to flick around in tight trail. there is not a great parts selection, and the parts that do exist are expensive.

overall, for XC and lighter "AM" riding i would always pick a 29er, especially endurance/marathon type riding! for long travel bikes, 26 is still the way to go.

i get this bike a few places.

I REALLLY want to build up a karate monkey in the future as a fixed gear trail bike. I really like the idea of a 29inch trail bike, and fixed gear can only be that much more exciting.

Since i first heard about 29ers, I've wanted one. Maybe a hardtail ss one with a bit of travel up front, something to just cruise around on and explore, something to take both up AND down hills without suffering complete exhaustion, something to boast about lol! I was so close to getting a Gt Peace 29er (not the best-most of my cash goes straight to car savings), but fell short of the cash needed when i got the new camera. I am hoping to be able to get one soon, they're soooo cool!!

I'm pretty impressed with one I'm "testing" at the moment. Its a Gary Fisher 4inch Full Suspension bike, with a sweet Fox 29'er fork, it gets up to speed decent. It carries speed over terrain really well (that was my first whoa!) and my overall impression went through the roof. If you get the chance to ride one- GO FOR IT!

Do you think this bike would be good for xc racing? How about super D?

it's truly amazing how well the 29er wheels carry speed, and corner at speed.

I just did a ride. Here's my stats......

35 Minutes, I climbed 2.75 Miles, 1200 feet on rolling sweet single-track. There were several get out of your seat short bursts to climb and almost everyone was perfect. Only one where a root was at the top and no way get the front wheel up it. and it took me 15 minutes to descend the very same trail. 3 very hard slow switch-backs were also done with total ease. I was mostly impressed with how much traction it got into the trail, and again, the speed was always there to get a nice big breath. Handles like a holding Paris Hilton's Hips, very predictable.

If your an XC racer looking to improve, or a DH'er looking for the ultimate Super D bike- I swear, this Gary Fisher HIFI D-lux is the weapon for any trail. Its blown my mind.

Here's the start of my 29er build.
Have some Avid BB7 discs and a Deore level build kit - nothing too fancy, just enough for my son and I to try out the 29er thing.
Will definitely be an oddity here in the Vancouver area, but the boys over in Victoria are swearing by them for XC.
