Yeah, in the air, im talking about those times you think you can roll it out but you cant, or if you hook up a bit, or land flat... when your running off in the bombhole is where the issue is
im a novice but I've been riding for a good few years now. It's all about visualization and target fixation. It's like when you're trying to chuck something in a bin, if you can image the path its gonna take you're usually gonna hit the spot. Try this when waiting to go, visualize your path in the air and where you will land.
Target fixation - don't be too focused.. It sounds weird but if you're scared of something, look past it, look at the line you're gonna take after you land, focus on the NEXT part and just take the jump as a given. Look as far forward as you can, much like driving a car. Look for the line, not the obstacle.
just sit there and tel yourself you can do it, and remember that if you don't do it, ur gonna be annoyed at ursen just hit it up if it fails learn from your mistakes, USE FEAR AS ENERGY!
I pretend like I've done it already or that I'm some pro in a video. It sounds stupid, but it relaxes me and I'm able to focus on my riding....not crashing.
it's been a month since i got into freeriding and i've been really trying to work my jumping technique....i'm starting to feel comfortable on tables and small kickers but there's this one drop that's been messing with my mind....its small but its way different than any jump i've hit so i can't get my self to hit even if i want it very much coz' i know it will boost my riding as for wooden jumps and stuff.....i'm scared that i might hit my brakes the last moment and nose dive.any thoughts?

do whatever you do never touch your brakes... or take them out just for that drop...
If you know anyone who's done the jump or drop, try to get out with them and either watch them or follow them off it.
Speed has always been the main issue for me ever since I spent a few days in the hospital after way overshooting a jump. Having confidence that you'll land where you want to took pretty much all the fear out of it for me.
I used to pussy out of hitting anything, but once youve hit something its easy after that. even if you case a bit youll immediately know what you have to do to land it. as for getting confidence, its tricky. it helps a lot to watch someone hit it first. if theres people then thatll help because youll feel like you have to do it. the ultimate is a chick you like watching you because you will go big to impress her. check out the jump from the side like canvasrider style and stretch out your arm and kind of pretend your hand is your bike and see where you take off and land. believe in yourself. make sure you have someone or a cell phone in your pocket to help to call 911 or your mom if shit goes bad. if you think you will be able to ride out of a case then that will help cuz you can go slower. its counterintuitive because you have to go faster to hit it but you think if you crash itll be worse the faster you go. or just come in pedaling as fast as you can and pull up in the air and keep your wheels level and overshoot and ride it out and then go hit it again. as for when youre getting ready think about and try to visualize hitting it perfect and landing it. yeah i also pretend, it helps a lot: (whistler announcer) " Cam McCaul dropping in" . watching a collective or anthill movie will psych you up but remember to stay focused and think about every single tiny thing you have to do while you stay relaxed. do some speed check run ins. if youre tired from pedaling the run in dont hit it cuz you wont have strength left. yell dropping in even if youre alone and get going, watch the jump and figure out where is your commitment line (where can you stop safely) and past that then you have to do it. think f*ck it in your head and commit. pray and keep wheels level in air. land it and be stoked. results may vary. also dont get too phsyked and not pay attention, stay focused on what the f*ck youre doing and only that. (my stoke level was too high day of rbr finals and was riding to my friends to watch it and wasnt completely focused and crashed on the biggest drop of the trail and shattered my collarbone and ended my 2012 riding and got surgery and medical bills). stay safe. dont hit if youre too scared, thats your brain trying to keep you alive. if you know you can then do it.
Most big jumps have a set up jump, if you clear that jump and hold on, you will clear the next one. Big jumps are scary in that you can't eye out the landing as easy as you are riding into the lip. To get over this issue you have to think of jump building and the trail, since you cleared the jump before it easily, there is no reason if you rode into the next jump that you would massively overshoot/undershoot. The person built that landing right where you are gonna go if you clear the jump before it and just hold on.
This goes for nice jumps not some wank pile that you pedal a bunch to hit once.
