Mine were for a looooong time, then one day I woke up and i couldnt see out of my left eye. retinopathy, lucky i didnt get a retinal detachment and go blind completelly but now 4 months later after several laser surgury sessions and several needles in my eye ( yeah IN my EYE ) There is only a oersistant eye floater in that eye.

I know you;ve heard all the suggestions and shit but seriouslly, from another diabetic. Test and dont lose your sight, I got lucky you may not.

Thanks, my sights already starting to get worse, and im loosing a ton of sensitivity in my feet and fingers, I was doing alot better when I lived with my girlfriend at the time (before that had got into some drug/alcohol problems) ended up flat lining 2x, once on a bus, a week apart from Low sugers. Now that I live alone again I find it harder to care about my self. Super lame excuse but it is what it is. I'm aiming to get healthy again over the summer for sure. Thanks for the insight, and good luck with the eyes.

You gotta care for yourself before anybody else can. I've had the nerve problems and such..sucks being diabetic

Im trying to focus on carb counting. Its very hard because I find my self a lot more sensitive to insulin before bed then in the morning. In the morning I have 22 units of insulin for 1 piece of bread and 2 eggs! Before bed I wouldn't even need insulin for this meal.

there is a thing called dawn phenomenon, this is prolly the reason for that. Basically your body always trys to keep a reserve of glycogen in the liver in the event you should need it. Ever have the Second wind feeling? this is where it comes from, your liver dumps glycogen into the blood stream where its converted into glucose this happens often in the Am to assist waking up, it also will happen if you go a long period without eating anything as your bodn needs energy. I eat almonds throughout the day to keep my Sugars in controll as a low carb snack. I dont eat bread often at all anymore by my doses are.

Lantus ( basal Dose at 11 pm ) = 28 units.
and then 1 unint of humolog for every 10 carbs. consumed.

breads and starches are difficult because as you know it depends on many factors to when you actually get the sugar rise from the carbs ( delayed carbs/long acting carbs )

heres what i am eating right now after a day of hiking and working on trail ( very very rainy and wet here or id be riding)

40 rice crackers ( 10 carbs per 8 crackers = 5 units insulin )
eadam cheese - 0 carbs
Gruviere Cheese - 0 carbs
sundried tomatoes - 0 - neglegable carbs
rockfish fillet - 0 carbs
almond milk - very low carbs, near 2 for a huge glass so less than a half unit of insulin
salad with walnuts and broccoli and a bit of bacon plus dressing - 10 carbs ( due to dressing )

and im making desert that is bakers unsweetened chocolate sweetened with stevia and with blueberries and almonds in it.. a huuuuge bowl takes 6 units of insulin but I usually only cna eat half

total carbs - 65
total insulin to keep stable sugars - 6 1/2 units and this is dinner which is a big meal, this fillet is Huge.

meat on barbeque is awesome too .

i find i have very few sugar spikes since discovering lantus insulin and dosing it at night keep my sugars more in check in the am

Lantus almost killed me, Levimer is amazing, unfortunately it's a pain in the ass to get it covered by pharmacare.

Im going to try and get more nuts in my diet I think and cut some carbs out. I keep crashing at bed time as well because im so sensitive to insulin before bed and my ratio is different making it very hard to carb count

severe overnight lows, maybe 3 seizures a week during the week. would wake up so often with chipped teeth and bloody knuckles. Levimer has been outstanding.

Im having trouble with lantus. I used to be on 48units a night now im down to 30. If I give myself 32 im guaranteed a hypo a few hours after. Only thing that has changed is I bike a lot more now Smile Some nights my sugar level will be 9 before I go to sleep then 15 when I wake up and I havn't eaten anything so im guessing its a liverdump. Im going to try and lower my carb

How does lantus compare to levomir ? I mean would it be a hard switch and what is the duration ? this troubles me to hear because I';ve recentlly had some issues and have been trying to better controll my blood sugars and have been having 2.0 - 3.0 lows quite a bit that ive woken from and in the last month I;ve had once while awake that I had a severe hypo ( came too sitting in the kitchen with a bag of spilled sugar and house in Chaos.. lost an hour of time )
and then last sunday I lost 3 hours of time and My- Gf Says I was acting really weird ( she didnt pick up on what was happening right aways as she had been very ill ) and Again Im left tryiing to peice together what the f*ck happened during that time. eventually I started eating sugar but these type experiences freak me right out, Im sure you've had a similar experience with a hypo at some point ? anyways, I haver since lowered my dose at night but I must take into consideration these "episodes"

I get that from time to time, where I'm completely outta it, and can't really put 2 and 2 together, feels like everything is hazy?

What I've been told is basically if Lantus doesn't work for you then go with levimer, and vice versa. I know another diabetic who is crazy tight with her diabetes (her husband is a dr. as well) and she had a lot of issues with lantus, there has been enough of an issue that you can talk to your doctor, and if you basically state that levimer is going to kill you or cause a plethora of issues. They can fill out some paper work and get a large portion of it covered, where as it usually isn't.
