Because you didnt post a picture...

And to the vagrant rider. In complete honesty the p2 isn't the greatest jump bike either, although better still not great. I'm not putting anything past the vagrant though, the guys at tranny know how to build.

As for the forks, personal preference. Some say the 55's are amazing, others say they blow. Pretty much any fork will feel good if you take the time to set it up properly for your own personal riding. In this case I would suggest an air fork, just for the simple fact pumping air into the fork is much easier than changing springs between a dh sesh and some dj. I personally love my pike, and have disliked all the 55's I have experience with. Once again it was in the way they were set up.

uhm... i really hope that this race has nothing more than 2 foot drops (and thats starting to push it) and you weigh far below 200lbs and are not running disc brakes.

thats true, but it's 90% rider 10% bike, i'm glad you're not running discs, those darts should not come with disc tabs considering that i'v snapped 3 of them (thank god for SRAM customer support)

I think any hardtail for UK downhill is fine and it will make you a lot better rider in the long run.
Me and my friends went out to the alps last year and we all had hardtails. Dont get me wrong it was a killer on the arms but still managable and so much fun when you are over taking people on big full sussers.
We had a cove stiffee, norco manik and sasquash all bikes were fine. You can pick up a older version of the norcos for pretty cheap if you look around on leisure lakes etc.

i weigh 230 and the disc brakes flexed those wee bitty stanchions like a wet noodle, after a few weeks, i would hit the brakes and hear a loud cracking sound and my wheel would jolt to the side

hey guys I'm a noobie I just want a cheap good all purpose bike. Alot of you are recommending a sasquatch or a rampage. I want a bike that I can use to commute to work (15 minutes) but something that I can really beat up on weekends. You guys saying that a HT would be uncomfortable on DH stuff but all I really want to know is if its CAPABLE of handling it. I'm there for the experience NOT to be the fastest or whatever. I might use it for AM or XC as well. I don't care if it's the best for each situation I just want something that I can take anywhere. HT are lighter and if u get a cheap FS you were better off getting a HT with better components. Input would be appreciated. My budget is between 500 and 1000 bucks at the most.
