They are if you suck at working on bikes. Otherwise they're the best in the business. Never had an issue with King stuff.

By who's standards?

They are the worst IMO. Over priced, you actually need to buy King's specialized tool to be able to pull them apart to service them, need I go on? They are the biggest pain in the ass on earth.

And yes, I've owned a King. It was brand new, skipped almost every time I got on the pedals hard. Got it serviced properly, and guess what? It was still garbage. I really do enjoy paying $600+ for something that doesnt work properly, then dishing out 150 more to have it fixed completely. Then I went to 250 dollar Bombshell hubs.. They have yet to skip, have more POE than king, and roll with a quarter of the resistance.

Yupp, King is definitely the best... Rolleyes

speaking from my only experience with king, which is running a king headset, i have no trouble with them, however hubs are a whole new story. ive heard they are just a pain in the ass so ive stayed away.

I will un-arguably agree with this.

Their heads are extremely nice.

I disagree, before they copied cane creek it was impossible to get the headset perfectly tight...

Of course you could, just had to work hard at it, and retighten it at the bottom of the downhill, and at the top of the uplift

You must have been doing something wrong. I never had a problem getting them tight.
