Just bought a Cannondale Perp 3 that came stock with Shimano M485 brakes. Off the shelve the looked solid, I like the feel of them during the test ride. SO off to Whistler Bike park, we ripped 3 trails and the back brake started to feel limp, on the 4th run it crapped out...I took it to Summit Cycle in Whistler (AWESOME GUYS BTW) who looked at it and told me they were shot, leaking both front and rear. WTF???, brand new brakes from a supposedly reputable manufacturer!!. The minute I got back home I bought 08 Juicy 7's and had the bikeshop return the Shitmano's for inspection. Today I got a new pair of 485's with the message that Shimano is aware that there is a problem (no shit) but they are not planning on changing the design or setup...well guess what, i have bought my last Shimano part. word to the wise, if you are looking at a Bike with 485's on them insist on the bikeshop changing them out before you drop 3k.
