my point exactly... and Muttley, that seems like a great shout! I'll look into it on payday!
I've got the non VC version. Its a good lens but the image quality isn't as good as I'd hoped, there's pretty noticeable chromatic aberration. The build quality is very nice compared to a canon kit 17-55mm. Not sure how good the AF is because I use MF all the time pretty much. It seems alright tho.
Try using a single point AF, follow the rider, and snap with the AF point on the subject
I've bought a tripod and going to use a friend to stand in place of rider before the shot so the Af is correct for the composition. Agree that will work for my slow Af Tamron lens? As we said the tamron 70-300mm lens Af is pretty slow, will need to put my friend to good use to get correct focus.
Always follow the riders movement. The only way to have a clear an sharp picture with a slr placed somewhere(not moving) is to set a high shutter speed. My tips, follow it for a short period, like a half of second, focus and shoot the picture. Great images will be created!
I am looking to get back into photography after a long hiatus (haven't done much digital beyond GoPro and iPhone but used to do some film stuff back in the day). I am looking into getting a Nikon D3100 and wondering what you guys think of it as an option for a relatively novice photographer looking to do some action photography and maybe some video. Any other options in the same price range I should be looking at?
That looks like an awesome little camera, as mI'm sure you know, its not the camera but the lenses are the true long term investments. I would say any current camera will do well for you, so just choose between the manufacturers and pull the trigger.
