It is not a walmart frame. Raleigh bikes is different than Raleigh Canada. No connection. Raleigh makes good bikes. Raleigh Canada is the Raleigh name but owned by group that makes crap bikes for Costco, etc. They also use the Fila Carrera names etc.

Just got a 2011 Kona Cindercone. I'm a beginner so hopefully it serves me well this season. Once I figure out what I really like out there I hope to move up to a full suspension A/M for next season.

nice.... say what you will about Kona, but their frames dont quit. Take a look at mine.... that POS has outlasted every one of its parts. Not that i would recommend NOT upgrading to a sick bike next year... thats a much better idea. Razz

Ya I keep hearing that Kona frames are solid. My riding partner has always rode them. He bought the 2012 Cindercone a few weeks ago and kept telling me to get a Kona. I was against following his lead but after testing a few bikes, the cindercone felt the best for my price range so now we are team cindercone....lol.

I don't expect to get crazy my first season. We want to add mountain biking to our back packing excursions and throw in some fun while we are at it. We went for an affordable, lightweight HT to start with. There are some pretty sick looking full suspension A/M's out there and so many options. Figuring out what I'll upgrade too will be one heck of a task.

That frame wa the last of the Raleigh Transients to have been hand built in Nottingham, England, before they closed the factory in the UK and decided to make the frames in Taiwan and ship them to the UK where the bikes are assembled at the Distribution hub in Nottingham....sadly the whole factory was pretty much levelled to make way for student accommodation. Only reason mine had Fox forks, Fox Float R shock, Halo wheels, Hope brakes etc was cause I pretty much rebuilt the bike around the frame bud.

The shop I work at sells Raleigh track and road frames, and let me tell you they are far and away nothing like a Walmart POS bearing the same name. Ironically, I also ride a Mongoose. Another sad example of brand butchering.

my old cannondale. Lets see what reaction this gets ......

I have nothing to say about your old cannondale, your speaker placement on the other hand...terrible...

Lol, what exactly is wrong with my speaker placement ? The sub could be better placed I guess but it sounds great right where it is. For the amount of hassle it would take to run the wire to it elsewhere it's not really worth it.

the sub is in a good spot in relation to the front speaker, I have mine in pretty much the same place. just not in another enclosure. once you do that you create a trap and the bass response becomes muddy. by placing the main front speakers in the same enclosure not only traps the low frequency, but the highs as well, but you are also taking away the most important function of those speakers. stereo imaging. if anything, take the left and right speaker out, toe them in towards the listening position (equal distance apart...like an equilateral triangle) toss on a cd, close your eyes and listen. yeah, I know. I'm a geek when it comes to this sort of shit. aside from bikes, my other hobby has been my home audio systems over the years.

That cdale is awesome. The stem looks uncomfortable and flimsy being so long, and those cranks look like they would snap or bend as well, but I'm a big guy and can't help but notice. sweet wheels!

they were a really light bike and I must admit I was a big fan of the pepperoni fork it was the only descent rigid fork on the market for years and it could take a real beating for the riding at that time I still have one hanging on the wall
