Guys. Is it better to stay in one place for Riederalp/Bettmeralp? Know any good places or in particular good locations? Tourism Switzerland has asked me if I have preference but of course I would prefer to ask opinions of people who have been there.

Danke!!

Hi Lee

We definitely like to stay in Riederalp, less tourists and better starting points for the trails. Furthermore it's easier and faster to get back from longer tours via brig, mörel...

We mostly rent an appartment for the week. It's the cheapest solution, since you can cook for yourself and have more space than in a hotel...

cheers

Thanks. We have 5 days so Riederalp seems like a good location. Also thinking of checking out Sudportal.

When did you plan to stay there exactly?
We happen to be in Riederalp/Bettmeralp with a bunch of people from august 4th to 11th. you might wanna join us for a couple of rides if you like. been there a few times and could show you some of the popular trails.

otherwise: bike shop's always a good start or just get yourself a swiss singletrail map for that region and you're settled. in my opinion you can ride in any direction you want from bettmeralp and you'll get a nice trail and a great view. so you possibly can't go wrong

good decision on the not-downhilling part Smile

My plane is the august the 12th!!!! that is just too bad, I arrive just after you leave... Frown

that's really unfortunate!

you'll be having a great time anyways ;-)
get yourself a map and try out what strikes your fancy. there are lots of gems and nothing I would consider a waste of time.
just ask the guys at the tourist info or the gondola. they're all happy to help and can show you the popular trails

some advice: make sure that you're on the trails early or late in the day (especially on the popular ones along the glacier). there are lots of hikers during the daytime - and it will be high season

enjoy your stay!

If your in the Ticino area, Monte Tamaro has lift accessed trails (day passes are 36chf)
It has an amazing trail, super rocky and technical tho. Yesterday i saw a lady with a compound fracture that got rega'd outta there. it was pretty dope haha

I need to bring my bike to Ticino sometime, I am there every other weekend working in my vineyard and drinking beer but not biking. Maybe sometime after harvest.

Hi
Hope you had à gréât  time last week!
I'm now at bettmeralp and still confused...

Maybe it was bad luck but the girl at the tourist station didn't know much
The rentals up here just have not so good xc bikes, not exactly what I was looking for!
I will try to go to feisch to see. Seems that they have better all mountain/downhill bikes

Still if somebody can try to explain a great trail they did it would be nice and tell me if a hard tail xc would do the job

This is the map I have. I don't understand a word :$

Flow zone: can you ride on the glacier side or only on the valley side? Is the a great ride you do that is shown on those map (. If your able to see)

hi

i recommend all the trails from bettmerhorn down to riederalp. From there to golmenegg (near bettmeralp or flesch). From Gomenegg to Breiten all the way down. (here watchout that u wont let a trail out. they are not far from the end of the others) If u do that on an enduro u will have so much fun. Best trail i rode this year Smile
ask if u got more questions

Btw: there are some trails which are on the glacierside. but i dont really recommend them. From the Bettmerhorntrails u will see the Aletsch enough Wink

Go this bike store - http://www.bikestore-schweizer.ch/Bike-Store_Schweizer/Willkommen.html

Ask for Kurt Schweizer. Here you can rent and get him perhaps to show you around too. Very knowledgable
