Yeah so i was going to do

Primer > Metalic Paint > Metalic Paint > Clear Sparkly Coating > Enamel/Clear coat of some form for protection ( I presume this is the 2k paint stuff )

If you want to do it properly, but can only use rattle cans then I suggest you buy stuff here.

http://specialistpaints.com/

it's not cheap, but it's as good as you're going to get from a can.

Primer http://specialistpaints.com/products/2k-primer-canz

Clear http://specialistpaints.com/products/2k-clear-coat-canz

Metallic http://specialistpaints.com/products/base-metallic-canz

Flake http://specialistpaints.com/products/flakes-canz

Pearls http://specialistpaints.com/products/base-pearl-canz

All good stuff, but yeah, not cheap.

Thank you

No problem dude, it's excellent quality kit if you don't have access to a compressor and gun. It also prevents reactions with chemicals that you get when you mix products from different manufacturers.

So what's the difference between regular clear coat (see through paint), and 2k clear coat

2k means it's 2 component, one being a hardener. It cures very tough, very quickly. I spray 2 dry coats and a wet coat (.thicker coverage with a wet coat) so 3 coats in about 30mins and you're done. Regular rattle cans would have barely any coverage at that point.

Oh I see. So it's kind of like a epoxy in a sense

Tremclad or Rustoleum are both good brands. Krylon is also a good bet.

Should I be using automotive paint or just general spray paint ? What type of primer should I use ?

Any grey primer from the above brands. and just regular rattle can. Automotive stuff gets pricy. It's all I've ever used on my frames.

Here is The Paint job My buddy did on my 2008 Giant Glory. Hes an automotive painter by trade so the primer, paint, and clear are all automotive (all Adui colors he had laying around from previous jobs) We stayed close to the format of the stock bikes from that time but changed up the color and a few details.
Olde Glory

Looks great man, like really modern for what I guess is a 6-8 year old bike.
