The Contra is at the same price it has always been. They didn't chose a new manufacturer as they already had a really good one for their Riot/Malice. Of all the thousands that have been sold during all those years only a couple of them have cracked, all of those after many years of heavy abuse (as far as I've seen). Can't really compare the strength of the really strong Taiwanese Black Market frames to the light and fairly snappy-happy NS frames. I mean the Capital is a great frame, but for example the Majesty flexes like crazy and snaps within a year of riding, same as the Suburban (less flexy but all of my mates who had one snapped them in around 1 year of riding). This doesn't say much about the frame-building company tho, as the difference is in the design. NS went for the as-light-as-possible trend, while Black Market chose to ignore that trend and keep the frames super strong.
Awk mine did not . It was as stout as my bitch frame from 2008. I never had a pre-2010 so I would not know . I know they went stronger with all their frames in 2011. HT bought his from crc and they did not even offer the first run in the US, It was a while before they even hit the states which is strange when you think since its an american company it would be here first and not in the UK. HT paid half the price . If he was here he would tell you. Maybe Olly can confirm this . I also saw the listing . Then after they restocked the contra it then sold for the standard price . Heyt what goes on in the world is like what eve . All things must end all frames have at least one casualty . Its about the support of a company . I feel guilty at times running a frame that is from poland made in asia . But TBH america has no offerings when it comes to MTB anymore . Stout is a toss up. If I had the entire design locked in I am sure I could have one hell of a frame built ., But As I have read and seen stout frames come with a ton of miss measurement s . Not Matty's fault bu the owners for not knowing every single part that goes into a frame build .

Example
Guy tells matty . " hey I want a frame with such and such spec " matty " what size tire ?" Owner " 2.1 max lol, I want to save as much weight as possible " Matty " ok will do "

One month later
Owner " f*ck my new tires dont fit Confused" complains on PB. Why do the tires not fit ? Some companies list a width but in reality the tire runs taller and fatter . so the size is not worked into the design to accommodate this . The custom frame is not spec'd to a larger tire . like NS and other companies do when listing max tire clearance . Owner pissed now wants to sell frame because new or very wanted tire does not fit Confused

Just wait for the new Edit1 Smile

And what's happening with Brooklyn Machine Works? Haven't heard anything about them in ages, while those frames where really good

A lot of the old NS frames did not have what they do now . We can all thank Flybikes for the trend of what NS does now . they increase the tubing thickness around the joint sections . A lot of other companies are doing this now .

I've only ever seen 2 Subs break, and my 09 Cap has been going strong after bails and crashes that I would've thought had done a LOT more damage. Either I'm not looking hard enough or you guys are making a big deal out of nothing Razz

My 09 Traffic seems to be holding up fine... and I'm no lightweight nor do I go easy on my bikes.

Shit can happen to any frame though... and half of these horror stories everyone gets worked up about are from pro's who are pushing their bikes well above and beyond what the majority of internet warriors are doing on theirs.

At the end of the day, you pays your money and takes your chances Smile

Word. That's why I stuck with Fly back in my BMX days. After their first batch of Pantera frames pretty much all failed in the same place on the downtube, they started increasing the tube thickness in key areas. They also extended warranty to 3 years which meant everyone with a cracked Pantera got a free replacement! Awesome news, as mine was 2 years old at the time. That is a company acknowledging it's mistake and making good on it and for me that's what it's all aboot Smile
