im curious as to which route i should take in terms of a fixie or geared. i live in la jolla ca but commut to downtown san diego its pretty hilly and i wanted to know if there is anyone here who has any knowledge on which way to go
You will get there faster with gears(especially helpful in the rain) You will require more maintenance having to adjust brakes/derailleurs(added expense)
Fixed gear is challenging and feels verrry rewarding once you've mastered being smooth and efficient
Down hills are worse than uphills on fixed. Climbing on fixed, keep your speed up so you stay in the right cadence range, and hammer it. Going down is hard because the bike wants to go faster than you can spin.
I really want a fixed gear again. I'm thinking about building up something real quick and dirty, gotta go climb around in the attic and see what I have! Haha.
